Doesn't seem to harm anything. Easier on the throwout bearing when using a stiff clutch.

You must mean clutch safety switch. Neutral switch doesn't relate to the clutch assembly.

Well I decided to stop by the stealership today. Asked the guy at the parts desk about the sensor and get this, $118 WTF? He had to be looking at the wrong part right? Does Greg take money orders?

Would the NPS cause the car to idle down or almost die when put in gear on an auto??

I have no idea 97 SR20, but you need to find out some way to pay Greg. $118 is straight up evil.

Damn straight its evil. He said it was a special order, I still think he was looking at the wrong part. Courtesy Nissan has the part for $18.94 http://www.courtesyparts.com/kb_search_result.php?chassis_id=16&keywords=neural+position+switch&Submit_Button=Go&cat=1

Can I add a resistor to trick the ecu? 300ZX guys do this all the time when they remove their egr systems. It should work for me too right? I did buy a new sensor from Nissan. I just don't have the time and tools to change it out right now.

No, it's just a switch. When the trans is in neutral, the switch is closed, grounding the wire. You could add a manual switch, but that will be a pita to operate.

Scratch that plan then. Thought it would work for a minute. I'll just have to swap it out when I can. After I clear this code, how long till the monitors reset? Smog test is coming up in July. Got to fix this before then.
