Bottom. Just jack the car up, and push the engine under.

I've pulled and dropped in motors in every possible configuration lol. I've gotten to try some interesting things. This last time I dropped the motor in from the top with the hood removed, with the tranny attached and everything! The motor went in pretty much completely vertically with an engine leveler.

The bottom is the best way to go by far. Very easy that way. And very fast. When I went from the bottom I had the motor pulled out, motor torn apart, put back together, and back in the car running, in only 7 hours. I had the help of one friend and we just hammered it out!

Bottom is my method of choice. I'm going to do it the way swiss did in his link, that just makes it look so darn easy. Now if I could only find that rear motor mount bracket.....

I have done it both ways...I will NEVER go out the top again...EVER
It is that much easier out the bottom.

I've done 3, soon to be 4, all out the bottom. I did it with and without a giant shop crane. without can be done but it takes a bit to get it high enough, regular throw 2 ton jack with axle stands moving further and further back on the car until mid point, and using wood to get the jack higher and higher. pain in the ass, but you make due with what you have!

NX on jackstands, motor on 4 wheel furniture dolly to roll out.
Front bumper is 32" from the ground.
A/c still connected, and tied up.The crossmember is still attached too.
Unhook the harness at the ecu and it comes out with the engine, instead of trying to mess with all the sensor plugs while it is in the bay.

Pulled mine thru the top.

Wasn't that bad at all, actually. I figured hell if you're going to separate the tranny, you may as well drop it, then pull the motor right out. Install is in reverse. Tranny really wasn't that difficult to install once I figured out what I was doing wrong in the beginning :o
