I wonder if in my scenario going with a shorter bracket would help me by not creasing the cable...

the 1.6 is shorter and sits the clutch cable up about 2" higher. I'm having a similar problem with my swap. What I'm going to do since I'm keeping the 1.6 clutch cable is cut down the SR bracket and redrill the holes. I'll take pictures of it for everybody.
