Base idle issues
sr20ve setup with ve iacv and de throttle body/tps and stock de maf. Car idles smoothly, but cannot get it below 1000rpm. The idle screw is adjusted all the way in , so in timing mode it can do nothing but go up. timing is at 13degrees. How can I get the idle down? I've toiled with it for a good minute and don't know what else to do.

I have had bad gas that will do the same thing and worse. So I would try going and filling up at different gas station and put some fuel cleaner in the gas too.

Smooth idle , so its not gas. It's just a high idle at 1000 rpm that I cannot lower in any way because of the idle screw. has nothing to do with gas.

Vacuum leaks, high fuel pressure, sticky IACV, miss adjusted throttle cable, miss adjusted throttle stop screw, miss adjusted TPS, ECU not going into timing mode,..... all can hold idle up ...

Maybe i'm not explaining it right but if the car is not under 1000 rpm it will not go in timing mode. I retarded the timing so the idle would be under 1000 , but the iacv screw is turned all the way , so the idle will not lower. Even if i get into timing mode the timing is very low and the idle cannot be adjusted any lower.

On some cars, I have used this trick to lower the idle:

- Bring car to operating temperate (let idle until fans come on)
- Turn on the Headlights, Fog lights, & rear window defroster (if it works)
- Then follow the procedures for Timing mode (Rain Dance or Nissan Datascan)

Your idle will be lower and that will allow you to enter timing mode.

My money is on a dirty IACV/AAC or dirty Air Regulator or has crapped out... If the Air Regulator stuck open, disconnected, or hose is cracked & leaking, you will get a high idle like this... I would inspect & clean both of them.
