transmission threw up
yeah, thats about the best way i can describe it. car has been doing good drivetrain wise, aside from radomley getting stuck in gear, which ive attributed to motor mounts. been on the road probably 2000-3000 miles now, and yesterday, when i got home, it pucked out all its transmission fluid. cars a turbo nx2000, transmission is a reman unit i believe. nothing gave me any warning, just dumped every bit of tranny fluid. its coming from between the tranny and motor. like, the flywheel area. but the clutch isnt slipping, and it NOT engine oil. its really black, foul looking fluid, and i put fresh gear oil in it when i put the car together. it NEVER leaked at any point before. is there a seal that might have just failed? by the way, i have not gotten down on the car AT ALL recentley, i just put around town in it. just wondered, im taking it apart this weekend, but i was hoping someone could tell me what to look for.

I believe there is a seal behind the input shaft, but i think its internal,so you would have to open the case.im not positive tho,im jus lookin at my trans on the floor rite now and there is no visible seal around the shaft, but i would assume it has one inside. normally,if the engine rear main goes out,the clutch will slip since the fluid is on the disc/fly side.if it is that seal in your tranny that is on tha pressure plate side,so it mite not slip.

so you think ill have to seperate the bellhousing from the gear casing then? is there a trick to this anyone? i really wish i had kept that extra tranny now.

Gear oil should come out almost as clean as you put it in unless something is fouled up in the tranny. It probably picked up crud from inside the bell housing on its way out. Did you use AGL-4?
And, yes, there is a seal around the input shaft, but I don't know how to get to it.

I just had my gearbox open... to get to the seal I think you might have to open the case... I'm not positive though because I didn't replace that seal while I was in there. If that is the route you have to go, taking the case off the gears is pretty easy, you will probably need a new bearing on the input shaft because it's pressed in the case holding it on, and then after that's gone and all the bolts off, it comes straight off.

Without basic knowledge of how the gears assemble inside, taking everything out to get to the seal may prove to be a little difficult. Taking everything out is pretty easy, but getting it back in is sorta a PITA.

Good luck man... I just got my tranny put back together, I just had a bearing blow up on my randomly without warning, had to take it all apart and clean absolutely everything to get all of the metal shaving out of the case and gears from parts of the bearing being chewed up...

I looked at my FSM last night. You need to place the tranny with the bell housing down and pull the back off. Then remove all the gear stacks which will still be in the bell housing half. Then remove the input shaft bearing retainer to get at the seal. Don't try it without good pictures. Might be easier to buy a good used tranny and put it in.

inner seal has nothing to do with it unless out cv joint seal is gone an you do not have to take apart casing to change the outter seal. might as well change both left an right since the fluid is already out.. removal of axle is not an option must be done. i really dont think any of these is a factor from what hes saying about motor moutn theres a good chance the housing might be cracked... due to running vehicle on broken or worn out mounts..

listen to me ive gone threw more tranny problems then GOD.only thing i havent done is schred the tranny in half.

i hope in your case its just those seals
