Thread: voltage after maf reground....

i just reground my maf (to the intake manifold) and my voltage on the ground wire is 9mV, between it and the battery (with the car on idling).

am i check this correct, or should the car be on and not running?

if so then all the threads i've read say that their voltages were in the 2mV or below. does this mean that my maf is bad?

not necessarily. where did you ground it to? did you clean it off with a wire brush first to ensure a good solid connection? also worth using is anticorrosion lube. there are a few spots on the intake manifold you can ground to, perhaps reground it and see?

To test I believe you turn the ignition to on but not the car running.

As stated in the article, you should get a reading of 9mV or below for a good ground.

well after probing around a little while ago, i found that when i probed the ground lug on the block and the ground at the maf connector i got ~1.5mV.

so this pointed to me that there was a lack of continuity somewhere. i had serious corrosion on the inside of the battery terminal (go figure).

i cleaned it up and everything looks to be good. i now have ~1.5mV from maf connector ground to the battery terminal ground. i guess i'll see if there's an improvement in the coming weeks.

Speedy.. I wouldnt recommend that you ground the MAF to the negative terminal on the battery. Especially on a 93 NX...

The MAF ground mod should be put on the same ground as your ECU and other ECU input sensors (IACV, TPS, etc.). This puts all of the engine control devices at the same grounding plane; which is a very good thing. The MAF ground mod accomplishes this.

^^^^ What Scotty said. Your negative terminal is not your 'ground'. Reground it to the intake manifold. Also, make sure the grounds to the intake manifold are good and clean, those are very important.

no no it is grounded to the intake manifold, but to check the voltage don't you probe between the battery ground terminal and the maf ground connector (middle wire)?

i was just saying that before i cleaned off the battery terminal i only was getting 9mV. now with clean terminals i've got 1.5mV. sorry for the confusion.

He already had the ground at the ECU ground, just bad connection between the battery and the ecu ground it self.

I told him to probe around with the tester, and that has yielded him to find that the battery ground was going bad thus when checking with the tester, it was showing up as a high number
