wont go into gear
ok, so thats a pretty general statement, i know. basically, i was driving home the other day....and i felt....feedback, or something in the clutch pedal. kinda like it kicked back at me a little bit. kinda went herkey jerkey. got it home fine, except it DID grind the smallest bit once or twice, but stepping HARD on the clutch solved that. anyway, got it home, i THOUGHT i adjusted the cable a bit (its been on its last legs for a while, it was at the end of being adjusted) and left it for a few days, having other cars to drive and really compleley forgot about it. got in it today, and COULD NOT get it in gear to save my life, it just wanted to grind. i tried shimming it out with an old motor mount ( you know, on the cable bracket off the tranny, i put in a spacer to give the cable back its adjustability) which looked like it would have worked, but didnt change the grinding. i even had my friend in the car, step on the clutch, then i was under the hood putting all my weight on the shift lever, ttrying to get it in gear....no luck. so basically, i DONT think its the cable (although i COULD be convinced that is the problem) and i wondered what other problems could cause this? such as a throw out bearing( mines been making noises:rolleyes or maybe a loose flywheel/pressure plate. i dunno. i just hate troube shoting in the cold. maybe you guys have some ideas, or can just convince my car that its the cable, and nothing else

i second the motor mounts. They give out and its hard to eyeball but its def there. I would either fill them with polyurethane or get some prothane inserts.
Also, if you have an aggressive aftermarket pressure plate you might have warped that clutch cable bracket.

and it mysteriously fixed itself yesterday. started the car in gear to move it, and i guess the small jolt that gave it must have taken some load off the motor mounts. looks like the linkage is getting binded up a bit, at least thats my guess. off to find some motor mounts now. i needed an excuse to upgrade to poly mounts.
