I was doing some searching at my local junkyard, and it seems that the 5spd p10's came with the 1 row plastic and alum. nissan radiator, and the automatics came with the larger plastic and alum. 2 row nx radiator with a built in trans cooler. I gathered this info after looking at like 8-10 p10's.

The trans cooler wouldnt be much of a problem as us 5spd guys could use it as a power steering cooler instead.

I noticed that the other day at Pull a Part. I would have grabbed it but it was damaged. I wonder if the trans cooler could be used as a oil cooler.

I'm telling you, the full-alum unit i have has the 1.6L inlet and outlet sizes, but it is very simple to fix! Put a 1.6 rad hose on the radiator, then put the 2.0 hose over the 1.6. Done.

There is no reason to believe that the difference from a 1 1/16" to a 1 3/8" hose is going to make a difference in flow when the opening in the thermostat is ONLY THE SIZE OF A QUARTER anyway.

I am going to stick to this Proformance core. The fin count is double what an NX radiator is, and it has aluminum end tanks that won't break and leak everywhere.

Its relaxing to see this thread.....Because my fricking radiator just blew up on the road on me TODAY!!!!! Very embarrasing. I think it did that because I removed my header wrap. So the heat must have damaged the radiator.

Possible oil cooler????? Think it would hold?

It should hold, trans temps can get up to what oil runs at or surpass it. Also there is most likely more pressure inside the unit as a trans cooler than there would be if it were used as an oil cooler. I am not positive on this, but it could be worth giving it a try or researching it a bit further, as far as trans pressure and such.

I can call my local radiator shop and see what they think, he has been around forever and repairs, rebuilds , customizes radiators for just about anything from diesel big rigs to cars.
