Gspec crank pulley spacer
Have a question about the Gspec crank pulley spacer. I'm putting the gspec crank pulley in my DE, and the spacer doesn't fit quite right. Did you guys have the same problem, and do any modding? I got it in a bit, then softly tapped it in a few times with a hammer, but it stopped moving. After that, I tried to take it out, but can't get a grip on it. Help please?

no we didnt have a problem, you could have lubed it a bit, then tapped it but ours went right on, ours was for the VE oil pump/housing and ve pulley but on a de block and crank, no issues at all make sure the key slots are lined up and hit it on, it will go, the ends of the crank have a slightly higher lip on it, not much but enough to make the first part difficult, once you get it past it, it will slide right on with no problems.

Did you lube it up before you decided to throw it on the crank? There are a few options regarding removal. Magnets won't work as the GSpec spacer is aluminum.

1. Remove the crank pulley keyway, get some needlenose pliers, and grab the spacer where the keyway channel is, and pull straight out. May take some time, but just keep pulling.

2. Remove lower pan, and baffle (is that what it is? can't remember). See if you can get a flathead up into the pump area (remove the pick up tube if you have to), between the crank gear and the spacer, and tap it out carefully. Use the crank gear as leverage if you have to.

If both fail, looks like you'll be pulling the timing cover off.

Good luck.

I did lube it a bit before I put it in, but it still stuck. I think I might try to get it out, and if that doesnt work i'll tap it in a little farther and see what happens.

Don't tap it in further. You risk damaging stuff that way. Not a good idea, unless you want to end up replacing a lot more, because of a $50 spacer.

If you manage to get it off, try "baking" the spacer and keeping the crank in a cool place.
That might afford you just enough space to put it on easier.

Could be getting stuck on the keyway, now that I think about it... Was the keyway installed correctly before you attempted to install the spacer?

Ok, I got the spacer out with a few small scratches on it. Apparently it wasn't fitting correct in the second key fitting. You think I should sand it down a bit and try it again? Not sure what you mean by installing the keyway before hand?

There are two keyways. An outer and an inner. The inner (closest to cylinder 1), keeps the crank gear in check. The outer keeps the crank pulley in check. They're half mooned in shape. You need to ensure that they're installed correctly into the slots on the crank shaft. If they're not, then one side can sit higher than the other and cause the problems you're having.

I wouldn't file anything down. Just be a little more cautious and precise

Did you remove the stock spacer? If not that could cause it not to go in all the way.
