1990 Miata, 24k miles, one owner, lady driven
I went by my old next door neighbor's house this afternoon to help her with her uVerse remote. I grew up next to them, and she always had a red miata, but when I was a kid I figured she had gotten a new red miata every few years, and I really didn't pay much attention. I probably haven't seen the lady in at least 10 years, my parents moved from there in 2002 or so, after I got out of the house.
So anyway, she was getting me a beer out of the garage fridge, and I was like 'oh, cool. You still have a miata'. I could tell it was an older one. She says 'yeah, 24 thousand miles. I've had it for 25 years.'
I about shit. I couldn't believe it was the same car from back in the day. She used to let my dad borrow it to drive me around when it was nice out. The car has been garaged it's entire life, and is literally immaculate.
I feel bad for the lady, she had to put her husband in a old folks home because his left temperal or somethjng like that in his brain has gone out, and he apparently just stares straight ahead all the time. Its really sad, he was a veterinarian and always a really sharp dude. Her too, she's a successful independent businesswoman. I remember her going off on the neighbor down the street (who happened to be the school superintendent) for driving through the culdesac too fast every day when I was out there on my skateboard.
Its just sad too see people get old and fucked up, but at least she's got a mint first run miata, lol.

Lol, sorry for the novel.
Man, it was kinda sad. Maybe if I start hanging out over there she'll will it to me. Would that make me a bad person?

Everyone gets old and fucked up to some degree. Enjoying the ride is the important part.

Oh yeah, textbook "bad person".

I get into these ethical dilemmas where I'm afraid if I do something for someone, and there's additional underlying reasons that I'm doing it, that it will make me an asshole. Not outwardly, just the way I feel about myself. But the old lady is cool enough, she'll bitch and curse about all kinds of stuff.

1. You wouldn't be a bad person providing you expressed your intent from the start, sharing your own appreciation for the vehicle.

2. Ask her if she has any cool car stories from her and husbands past etc. Key is to build rapport but mean it.

3. You'd be a better person offering to do chores/errands in exchange for a future shot at owning it.
