87 is $2.29 or so here in KS. Biggest difference I noticed recently is the price of diesel. Diesel seemed to drop quite a bit recently.

The good news is that the huge drop in gas prices means that when they start going up again, it will happen at a slow pace so we'll have lower prices for quite a while. Prices drop a lot faster than they go up.

It's still $2.70-ish for regular around here. I heat my home with fuel oil, so I'm more excited about the drop there. When we moved in back in 1997 we were paying $0.87 gallon. Two years ago it was $3.85 gallon.

This all happened before through the 70's into the 80's. Oil went through the roof, gasoline did too and was rationed in 1973 and I think again in 1979. Locking gas caps became fashionable because people were stealing gas out of cars. Engines and cars got smaller. Turbo 4 cylinders were everywhere. Solar and wind energy were all the rage and the electric car was creeping into the headlines. Sound familiar?

Then the "oil glut" of the 80's. By 1986 gas was around $1.00/gallon nationwide and stayed there through the 90's. People forgot about alternative energy and then the SUV. Then it all happened again. Oil went through the roof and yada, yada, yada.

I'ts been a long time coming and I think it'll be around for a while, enjoy it.

Paid 2.59 for regular this morning, but there's a good +/- .20-.50 swing by city here. I've seen 2.3x and 2.8x for regular just 1 city over.

About the same here in NH. But don't worry guys, come Spring prices will spike and that's just my opinion as I hold no trust in oil companies.

You should be thanking those companies who have spent big bucks to make shale oil drilling the way it is now. That is a good deal of why oil prices have dropped. The United States now produce more oil. OPEC can suck an egg.

My sis-in-law posted a picture on Facebook where has was 1.75 or something in the Kansas City area. I don't know which side of the state line she was on. In Indy, it's about 2.15 for 87

I'd still like to know why prices are so high. Years ago, in this area, if barrel prices were sub-60, prices were about 1.50/gal. 2.50 now...

Is gas being taxed $1/gal?!

Gotta account for inflation, well maintenance and a few other factors. I was JUST reading up on this lats night and this morning

There must be a LOT of factors...cause it seems to have gone up ~0.70/gallon since the late 80's.

Hopefully one of those factors isn't "research," which was the excuse gas companies used on their billions of profits each month. I'd venture to guess that those fees are to raise profits for their investors...
