Thread: 1987-1990 Nissan Pulsar thoughts??

I just drove a 1988 Pulsar Sportback. Pretty fun, unique, and peculiar car. Not as sporty as the B13/B14, but still fun. With a wagon hatch. And the standard hatch. Or no hatch at all. And T-tops! This owner actually has 2 sets which is nice. No rust and it's in great shape considering the age.

I also understand that the ca18det will bolt to the FWD trans. Anyone familiar with this?

I can't believe it, but I am considering buying one. They are 80's awesome with styling, and as I understand it, bullet proof. Outside of rust that is.....

Thoughts or opinions? Anyone own one previously and have an opinion? Don't NEED a car as I barely drive as it is, but I did have fun in this one.

In Highschool I dated a girl who had a brand new 88 SE twincam .5spd loaded. It was sporty and fun,but slow and heavy for a small car compared to the competition of the day.
It was a good car for her for a long time.Good for her and her friends to go to the beach in ,LOL good gas mileage,ttops,etc.

In the late 90's,I also owned an 88 Auto(base model with smaller engine) because I got a great deal on it. That car was in great shape,and drove good,but made the 5spd SE seem like a rocket..haha.The auto could not get out of its own way...dangerously slow in my opinion.
I also had a hard time finding good parts for the PulsarNX.because even in the 90s I didnt find many in the yards that were worth a crap.

As for the sportback...its a cool option that you rarely see...even when theses cars were new.

If the deal is right and the car is in good shape,I say go for it. The worst case is you resell it

They're interesting enough, but I find the flu pandemic of 1918 interesting too. Personally, if I had to pick a car from that timeframe it would be a turbo Dodge. A Shelby or GLHS Charger, or maybe a Shadow CSX or Shelby Lancer. The 2.2 Dodge turbo motor was/is a breeze to work on with parts-o-plenty for cheap, and they're fast as shit.

The NX was some sort of Japanese queef, and dare I say it (radiator and brakes aside) the only thing the NX2000 had going for it was the SR20DE. Seriously, who loves the NX1600?

I briefly considered a really clean rust free dent free one that appeared to be a time capsule from the showroom floor it was that nice.. guy wanted $2500 and it seemed darn reasonable for what shape it was in.. but I thought better of it and walked away never looking back.. haha

If I had the time I think would buy it and I would attempt a Sr swap .even a stock De would make that classic run a lil .

I had an '83 Pulsar NX as my first car...drove it many years without issue but had developed 5th gear popout by the time I sold it. I had considered getting a newer used one but fell in love with the newly released Sentra SE-R.
