I've owned my 2004 Hyundai Elantra GT now for 9 years now. Bought it brand new in March of 2005. So far NOTHING has gone wrong with it except for the radio, torn CV boot and a tie rod end (all under warranty thank you). Car drives and looks as good as it did from day one.. I even have leather, abs, power sunroof, heated mirrors, traction control etc...
Get some dirt cheap KDM parts, badges etc... for it and no one will know what it is. I have the KDM "Avante XD" badging on mine and I constantly get asked what kind of car it is. I did the same KDM treatment to my wife's 2011 Tucson. Same reactions!

You don't have to convince me, I'm sold on the ET but wife no like. The last couple of days I've been looking for a low mileage '03-'08 Mazda6 wagon or hatchback to no avail. Plenty of high mileage examples to be found though.

So I gave up on this because the wifey was being a bit unreasonable and wanted to keep her Protege5. Now the front end developed some knocking issue(s) while turning at low speeds over rough pavement. I thought sway bar links and replaced both... for nothing, it's still knocking. She asked if we could take it to have it looked at and I explained to her that it's a 12 year old car with 135,000 miles on it. It's just a matter of time until something unpleasant goes wrong, not to mention rust appears to be sprouting from every seam I look at. I reassured her it's been a damn good car over the almost 9-1/2 years of our ownership, but it's time.

So Mazda is running a lease special 2014 6's, $199/month for 3 years with lots of incentives and a reasonable buyout. Yesterday we cruised the local Mazda dealer so she could see one in person and I think we may have a winner. She particularly admired a Touring model in white, but said she'd have to drive one first. We're leaning heavily towards an automatic (yeah, I know) but I urged her to test drive a manual too.

No it's not a wagon, but it surely isn't a crossover/cute-ute/SUV turd either.

Wife get's to doing some research and changes her mind about a lease, (sigh). So we go to look at an '04 Mazda6 wagon today, only 88+k on it. Well, it's in the shop being "prep'd" so I can't drive it, but sales guy takes me in for a peek. Looks okay, but written on the windshield is "Misfire" "NO CEL". Tells me it won't be ready for a test drive for a few days and that he'd call me when it was ready, then gives me the Carfax. It was sold new on Long Island, 1st owner for 15 months, second owner in Queens until last November, then it ended up at an auction, and as of Thursday this dealer. 88k miles in Queens might as well be 176k. I'll pass.

Going to look at another '04 on Friday. One owner, but 107k. Looks extremely clean in the pics, but pics lie.
