I feel the same.

Quoted for truth.

I think I found where the coolant is coming from, after letting the car sit overnight I found a ton of coolant on top of the passenger side head puddled there. It doesn't seem like it's the upper radiator hose itself, also doesn't seem like the turbo feed or return lines. But it could be where radiator connects to the head, or where the turbo coolant reservoir elbow goes to the block. Looking to find diagrams now.

Mine had steam coming out the hood scoop once and it was a worn upper radiator hose and clamp. I got away for about a year by tightening the clamp up a bit on the engine side but it came back.
I don't think the 2.5L turbo cars get the head gasket thing in the same way as earlier models.

Yesterday rented a coolant system pressure tester, was going to try it to find out that it needs a $45 Japanese car adapter. Bummed I just tried tightening up the upper hose clamps. Today got the adapter, pressure tested the system to 15 psi, let it sit for ~10 minutes, dial didn't move at all! Went for a drive, old coolant spilled/burned off and it didn't seem to produce any more smoke/smell! Looks like it was a stupid hose clamps, I will verify that there is no coolant tomorrow.

So glad it was a simple problem, I did already receive a new timing belt kit with new WP. Guess I'll set it aside until it get warmer/I hit 200k miles. Now can go camping this weekend, woohoo.

Remove the radiator to take off the timing belt covers and so on. Its actually a pretty small motor in a big bay.

I am exaggerating the pulling the engine out to do spark plugs, but replacing 4 plugs is as bad as doing 1 water pump on an FWD SR20 imo.

well the turbo stuff takes up more room. But still it isnt too bad on the forrester. WRX is a little worse.

Nah turbo stuff is not that bad. I bet 3.0r is worse then WRX, my buddy has a Legacy H6 and it is a royal pain to get to some of the rear plugs, plus his manual calls for 30k Iridium plug replacements...

I will say the forrester has quite a strong ignition. Like I mentioned, my brothers car has 140k miles on it and they were original plugs. The gap on them was over .100" and the thing was still running good until the spark plug tube filled with oil. I had a civic that had a similar plug gap, the electrode was pretty much worn down flush with the insulator and when warmed up it felt like the engine just shut off with anything over 1/4 throttle. Pretty funny actually. The forrester on the other hand still prior to that ran and drove just fine at any throttle. Strong coil I will say that for it not to have major misfires, hesitation, and just not accelerate at all over 1/4 throttle.
