Sat in both the Scion and the Subaru and I liked them. Honestly, they feel like a 944 and a b13 SE-R had a baby. Seats felt great and the seating position was spot on. I was disappointed on the rear seat room though. Contrary to all the reviews I've read, those backseats are only adequate for amputees. I'm 5'9" and my head was touching the glass! I think it's safe...and sad.... to say this is a two seater. I understand that they wanted a sizeable trunk but why sacrifice that much cabin room? My SE-R has similar trunk space and much more rear legroom. I'm not throwing a fit. Everycar has it's shortcomings. I mean, the SE-R didn't have fold down rear seats like the FR-S does. Similar engine characteristics to the SR20 though, other than the boxer configuration. Similar redline, same exact size, aluminum block. Kinda funny after all these years of development, they still went back to a tried and true engine design it seems. Sure a boxer and an inline are way different, but there's nothing crazy tech wise.

what started it all.

im really loving the write ups and the overall similiarties shared with the real ae86. the only thing that throws me off, and i mean way off like off the point id never consider it is that flat4. wtf were they thinking, a fucking boxer motor ? seriously ? they would have been better off with a 2zz bored out to a 2.0. cranking out 220bhp. 8grand revlimiter. i just dont get it. or they could have completely designed a new inline 4 2.2 or something thats cracking out numbers similiar with the same characterstic output of the ap2's f22 motors. yet they throw in a boxer, wtf toyota ! they could have given us a bored out 2.2 20v or something similiar. a real sports motor.

this is what they should have went after, 10000rpm throttle response like a mother fucker, reliability and driveability like a mother fucker. instead they hand us a rwd naturally aspirated wrx. you can keep it. this is what nissan did to us with that spec v trash.

fast foward to 1:40 for the fun to begin.

toyota should have brought keichi tschunay and used his expertise. i feel if dori dori would have been part of this he would have never let that motor be put in that car. o well .

i do love me some ae86 though...

Cost. It's all about cost. Toyota is more concerned with Green, not with performance. People won't buy their cars unless they get at least 40mpg I don't understand their logic.

And as for "real sports motor"? Boxer motors are sports car motors.

want more power...add one of these

HKS S/C kit...250hp/260tq...$4500

btw...this is more/less prototype as it's in their racecar, which deletes the A/C. hopefully the model released for retail allows you to keep it, especially for the FL folks

Stratton and I agree a lot on this car, but IMO the boxer doesn't detract from it's appeal for me. It seems to be a wash for me between lower center of gravity, rear engine placement, and boxer balance (pros) versus ease of maintenance and boxer historic issues (cons). (You can't tell me you'd rather work on a RWD boxer 4 over a RWD I4)

I know that I'm posting images from TAS in Japanland that are six months old, but here goes anyway:

N/A 2.0L

DIT 1.6

Now the real question becomes: What are they going to put the DIT 1.6 into?

my guess is the new wrx/sti, although it was rumored to have a 2.0...
