Test drove an '01 G20t
Initial impressions: looks quite nice both inside and out. Didn't look like a 2001, more like a 2006 or something. All stock. Started up nice. Drives REALLY smooth, handled well, very refined. But then I stomped on the pedal and although it was an automatic. After seeing SE-RMonkey's 93.5 G20 in person I've been wanting one, but a P11 as I need a newer car for a DD and work.

So here's the question, is the stock 5 speed P11 G20t (which BTW is hard to find it seems) THAT much faster than the automatic or should I even bother caring? I've also been looking at a 2005 Sentra 1.8S, 125HP and it felt about as fast, but is a few years newer and weighs less. The asking price for both vehicles is the same and the both have around the same mileage.

Manual isn't much faster. Severly underpowered cars from the factory.

okay thanks. kinda what i figured. from never riding in a 5-speed G20 (of any chassis) I wasn't sure. I think they are just too heavy.

The only real "power" killer is the gearing. I had an auto p11 and I now have a 2001 5 speed p11 and I can say the manual is much faster. I don't necessarily think the car is underpowered as it moves pretty good and it's all stock besides very expensive spark plugs and a K&N drop in filter. Now if this car came with something like a B15 2.0 5 speed tranny then it would move a whole lot faster. One thing I love though is the highway rpms and gas mileage. 80mph @ 3400rpms

Going from auto to manual is probably the best and most effective performance "mod" one can do on their P11's.

Meh...if this is indeed gonna be your daily then you want an auto. I definitely prefer my auto miata over a manual because its easy to daily and other people can drive it. 1. I don't have to shift. 2. stop and go traffic is easy. 3. The car is just as slow as the manual anyway. 4. I don't wanna mod the car because its auto so I just drive it and don't have to worry about it turning into the crack habit other cars have.

If its really a daily driver get an auto. I just chill and watch movies on long drives lol. No shifting

I'd say if you can find a P12 in Philly or any other state buy it because is probably the only one in the US.

I will never regret buying my P11. It is an auto and slow as hell (18.4 @ 85mph IIRC). We cruised to the Ohio convention at a steady 90-100 through PA without issue, sometimes more. It is underpowered and it sucks on uphills. I usually get up to 85 and it will kick down a gear and hold there around 3500-4000rpm, any lower and it starts slowing down. Currently have around 230,XXX miles on mine. I preferred an auto so I could avoid modding it besides suspension and cosmetic goodies. I would do it if you find a clean P11 for a good deal. Just watch for rust especially on the rear quarters and doors.
