Thanks. Just purchased the seal kit. I have some interesting news that will be posted when the kit comes in. Something that I immediately said "WTF?!!?" to.

Nice. What kind of kit did you order? Are you doing the hybrid T28 upgrade?

Nope, using the same wheel that was pulled out to prevent needing to re-balance. I ordered the same kit that GPopShop uses in their rebuilds, which is actually why I said WTF. When looking at their kit, they don't replace the thrust bearing with a 360* bearing unless you specify, and it'll cost you a bit more. The kit I ordered came with the 360* thrust bearing which is TONS better than the 270*, and also comes with both the long and short shaft bearings. He'll notice a little difference in spool time with the 360*, and it'll last him a lot longer.

I had originally thought about upgrading the wheels, but then you have the issue of re-balance, which would defeat the purpose of the cheaper DIY rebuild.

When you order the kit, it comes with what you're looking at. I'm sure they could send you an instruction sheet with the kit, but I prefer pictures I can actually see, to black and white copied pictures that you can't make out.

Item #6 is the thrust bearing, btw. That image is from GPopShop, right?

"You'll see above in the last picture, that this turbo is a DYNAMICALLY SEALED turbo, and not CARBON SEALED. From what I have gathered, small frame turbochargers before 1990 were carbon sealed, and not dynamically sealed. The carbon seals look A TON different than dynamic seals" - Tekkie

i'm guessing this is what you mean Tek?

Clocking the turbo refers to rotating the housings around the center cartridge. You obviously want the oil feed at 12, and the oil return at 6. Keeping this in mind, you still need the exhaust housing and compressor housing to be lined up so that you don't fight with the turbo after mating it to the manifold, and don't fight with the compressor housing to line it up to your chargepipe. It's MUCH easier to line it up as I showed, rather than try to loosen the bolts and rotate the housings after it's already in the car.
