IMHO though blow through is the way to go for me. No matter what. I know people who still recirc the BOV even when they are blow through. Also, never say never! Every single one of my intercooler pipes is beeded, i use couplers thick enough to make it a pain in the ass to even put the coupler on the pipes, and all of my tbolt clamps have been tested (I have t bolts on every pipe. Some brand tbolt clamps deform if you tighten them to much and cant be used again so I tested all mine and got the ones that dont do that) even with all of this...Running 20+ Psi of boost will definately show you where your weak points are quickly! When the weak points showed on my car (one was the coupler on the turbo popping off, and another was the outlet pipe to u pipe) I wasnt in my neighborhood or anywhere close to home being that you need alot of open country road to test the car. Had I not been running blow through I probably wouldve been sitting waiting for a tow truck about 5 times now. Since then all my coupler blow off spots have been addressed. But had it not been for me running blow through I wouldve been using my time and money on a tow truck home. Also, sure I could cary tools in the car. But I dont know about you but im not touching a 10billion deg anything close to a turbo thats just been pushed to that high of a PSi without a cooldown time aka you sitting on the side of the road waiting. I have the burn scars from trying to fix stuff on my car without letting it cool down and they are not pretty and the constant pain is not easy while they are healing! Just saying...I like my car reliable no matter what.

Word...

Not sure if you fixed the coupler blowing off thing or not... but a good friend of mine said that the hair spray trick works to help that. Spray a lil bit on the outside of the pipe before you put it together and leave it a day to let it dry. Said, that chit was almost impossible to get off after that.

I've yet to try it... mainly because my baby locks have mad sheen and are full of body... so I don't need hair spray.

dish soap works well too but you have to use it sparingly and make sure it dries or else it will have a reverse effect

How many cars have you tuned to fix this problem? and which problem are you referring too.

Nope got it fixed. It was just the ****ty coupler that I had on the turbo. I had one orderd but was waiting on it to get here so I threw the ****ty one on just because I couldnt wait to test out the new turbo. It held up fine to 1bar and 16lbs of boost. But when it saw 19+lbs it couldnt hold onto the turbo well enough! My new coupler and Tbolt are holding up fine to the 19plus that it rarely ever sees. I havent replace the other coupler that kept blowing off yet. But Ive got it tbolt clamped AND worm clamped and the bitch seems to be actually holding now.

I heard of the hairspray thing also. People use that and worm clamps and I heard its work really well...that is until you go to take the couplers off...

I tried rotating it and nada...

As soon as boost hits it falls on it's face. I really wish I wouldn't have given my dad my innovate LC-1 WBO2 sensor... This is really pissing me off. Is it more likely to run lean in blow-thru? If that's the case, I might have to change my fuel filter...

People go draw thru cause honestly its easier and less driveablity issues from what i have seen. Im draw thru and i havent had 1 issue with it.

Ive seen alot of people just about all 240's have mad compressor surge cause theyre running draw thru with atmospheric bov, cause the bov is shutting way to fast when it blows off and not letting all the air out and if the bov didnt shut fast enough there car would stall. Thats my opinion.

LOL theres so much mis imformation in this thread its crazy!

-Blow through will not make your car more likely to run lean

-changing your fuel filter wont help if your car is running lean unless its really clogged

-Going draw through isnt easier. They are both the same "easyness" to do if you havent made your intercooler piping yet. Hell even if you did all you have to do is splice into your piping before the TB and throw the maf in there...

-people dont have less drivebility issues with either setup. Some people just dont know what they are doing and need to work the bugs in there setup out. YOu also have to have at least a simple understanding of how blow through and draw through works to even get them to work properly. (this isnt directed at anyone)

-having a blow through setup has NOTHING to do with having compressor surge. Having your BOV adjusted wrong or having a sucky vacuum source to the turbo does that. Not where the maf is located lol!

I fully understand the difference with both setups.

I NEVER once said blow thru causes compressor surge. I quoted what i said.

When running atmospheric bov with a DRAW thru maf setup - They have to tighten the bov up so it doesnt leak at idle, and when it vents off it has to shut immediately or it will stall, if it shuts to fast it forces the air back into the compressor housing causing compressor surge. Cause the air has no place else to go. Thats what i understand. I might be wrong but it makes sense.

Thats my fault. I didnt read lol. They actually arent adjusting the BOV so that it stays closed at idle. You can do that with even a soft setting. What they are doing as you said kinda, is adjusting it to make it hard to open so that it doesnt blow off much (if any) metered air unless they hit full boost. In turn that makes it so that the BOV is not opening at all when the turbo isnt boosting all the way up. So instead of the air being released it just goes back through the turbo.

Thats also the beauty of the HKS SSQV. It doesnt have a spring it has a diaphram. So it opens the piston just enough for the ammont of boost and the closes back quickly. Because it only moved the bare minimum it can close that much quicker. Ive heard of alot of people running draw through with the HKS SSQV and not having the super rich problem bad at all. With a spring BOV your kinda limited with what you can do with the BOV. If your running high boost then you need to make the spring stiff so low boost suffers from surge. If your running low boost you set the spring soft but then you have to readjust the BOV if you want to run higher boost or it might leak. From what Ive seen I can still make my HKS Surge but it only will happen at super low boost where it doesnt even matter anyway.
