20V catastrophic failure
My mate had an unfortunate weekend.

400whp S14 SR20VET 20V with a built bottom end. He thought he heard rod knock so he shut it down.

Cylinder #4 doesn't look good..


Next step, remove head


Cylinder liner


Valves


Seems like a mechanical failure, all the other cylinders look perfect. No knock was ever registered. Headgasket is still intact too!

I hate days like that... Would be interesting to know what broke first to make that mess. Was it standard 20V cams and springs? How many RPM did it go up to?

looks like he floated the valves. Standard valve springs or did he upgrade them?

Though I should update this thread,

The reason was.............failed chain tensioner.

Next build is gonna be with a mechanical one...

What tensioner was he using? OEM 20V or S14?

I hope this was user era because im boosting mine with a stock bottom end.
