Oh boy, if you get a Magnaflow it will be loud if your NA. Here's a quick vid of me driving around, VE with a 3" Magnaflow. At least you can hear what it sounds like in the front seats:

The best sounding muffler for our cars that I've ever heard is the Stromung. Also the most expensive at over $300. I think they are either 2 3/8 or 2 1/4 though. But it doesn't drone and it has a deep mellow tone. one of the few that doesn't look or sound like a riced out Honda. Greg V still has them on the website, dual and single tipped. They are a quality piece and will last a long time if you can cough up the dough.

A good durable set-up would be a stainless 2.5" VRS exhaust into a Stromung. Doesn't get much better than that.

However, HKS has the best OEM appearance. I've had that exhaust and I love it, but I can't find them anymore. Depending on how boosted you are, the HKS would choke the engine a bit I would think though at 60mm.

That's why I bored mine out to 3", and removed the 2.37" pipe that goes in. It's all 3" up until the wall hitting baffles.

It's a big muffler and hard to fit in a lot of cars, P11 fit perfectly but B15 I had to get creative. It's still restrictive too, I lost about 5-10whp according to virtual dyno on my B15. But having a quiet non droney exhaust makes it worth it. At full throttle at 50 feet it measured ~88dB at my local Autox course, I listened to it while my friend raced the car and it was as quiet as stock cars at full throttle (with turbo).

Next time I do an exhaust I probably will use 3" round mufflers that are nice and long. Oval mufflers don't have the material density on top and bottom.

Amen to that.

@Shawn B:
Same exact motor SR20VE with N1 cams, same exact exhaust 3" VRS piping with 3" bored STI muffler. Only difference is one is NA one is Turbo.

@Vadim

Sweet video, thanks. I *think* with the turbo and two (2) Ultra resonators, I'm gonna be happy with my exhaust.

@Vadim @Shawn B

Round mufflers are louder because there is less packing material per volume than in a equivalent oval muffler/s. Also, the oval mufflers allow the soundwaves from the engine exhaust to interact with each other in a way that can cause sound wave cancellation thus, less noise. There is a reason why every OEM muffler equipped on cars has the oval design from the manufacturer. It is quieter by design.

The use of resonators in the systems helps out a whole bunch. I saw no mention of the use of resonators and that explains the angry bees in your video, Vadim.

Turbo mufflers should be looked into since they take advantage of this while still provided a free flowing environment.

As soon as I get this installed Ill try to upload a video with some decent sound. I wanted as quiet of an exhaust as possible, so @Doug Fab built this for me. Here are the specs

- VRS 3" Piping Kit
- 2x Vibrant Resonators
- 1x Vibrant Cat
- MagnaFlow 14835 Muffler
