Turbo compatibility, please help... I searched.
Hey guys... I searched and can't find a solid answer so please bare with me if this should be an easy find.

So I have a SR20DE-t I just installed 3" pipe from turbo back. Currently PIPE ONLY... No cat, no muffler, resonator, nothing but pipe and 02 sensors.

I believe if I searched the p/n correct my current turbo is actually a factory 300z Garrett T25.

It seems common... so after the 3" upgrade I noticed immediately pretty heavy smoke while deaccelerating. Apparently causes the turbo seal to leak and it sure is, my IC is coated inside with oil, etc.

MY QUESTION:

I've read horror stories of how horrible the T25 is... but obviously rebuilding it would be least expensive.

However IF I DID upgrade it, what turbos have the same flange. I already have a Titanium header so I do not really wanna move up to a turbo requiring me to change that.

So what are my options?

For instance, would the Gt28rs bolt on the same manifold?

is this a RWD car? Generally, any t2 turbo will bolt to the same flange.

No sorry, FWD (200sx SE-R)

t2 turbos? Meaning t25 and t28? Aren't they basically the same?

t25, t28, any t2 garrett variant. In other words you have a lot of choices, it's up to you to decide the power level you want, then pick a turbo.

They are not the same but the exhaust flange is the same. Post some pics of your setup and more details. The older 300zx uses a t25 type turbo with a t3 flange so it depends on what you have. Your best bet is to find a stock fwd t25 turno setup or turno depending on your manifold. The t25 turbo is an awesome turbo for lower power and longevity hence why it's used by many manufacturers.

Are you trying to make sure you get a turbo that bolts up exactly, with the same four flanges and oil/water line placement? Or are you just concerned about the two exhaust flange placements? Or do you just want to know what will bolt up to your exhaust manifold and don't care about the other 3 flanges?

I think he's trying to find a direct replacement turbo for what he has now. A T2 will be T25/T28 flange all the same. The only difference is the exhaust housing. Most T2's either came 4 bolt or 5 bolt. Majority of the stock Nissan turbo setups ive seen uses a 5bolt turbo outlet then 3 bolt downpipe setup. So all you will need to find is a internal wastegated T2 turbo with 5 bolt exhaust housing. Anything GT25-GT30 will be available in T2 5 bolt options.

AWESOME INFO AND QUESTIONS GUYS...

My main concern was the exhaust, I have both a titanium header and a cast gti-r manifold as backup so I would like to be able to use them... My current turbo has only oil lines... the turbo outlet is a 3 bolt flange but I have a flange that immediately turns into am end to clamp a pipe on (meaning if the new turbo has the same 3 bolt but different "clocking" I do not think it will matter. I will go look now and see if the exhaust has 4 or 5 bolts... take pics... and post more in a few min.

Thank you guys.

Sounds to me like you have a z31 turbo for a late 1980s 300zx. The j-pipe or down pipe outlet has 3 bolts but the turbo outlet should be 5 bolt. That is a very old turbo I would suggest you upgrade/update. Post up some pics so we can help you out with what turbo you have. FYI: early 80s z31 turbo is a small t3 and the late 80s z31 is a t25.
