Torque steer - which way does your car go?
Figured I'd post this in the turbo section because I never really had torque steer when n/a.

So, ever since being turbo 6 months ago the car has tracked pretty straight under power, with no real noticeable torque steer, and if anything it pulled slightly to the left.
But yesterday I installed a new RHS driveshaft as the CV in the old one was screwed.
Now, this new driveshaft is a hell of a lot thicker and therefore heavier than the old one but it's definitely the right shaft.

Anyhoo, under power the car now has a strong pull to the right and I kind of have to fight the wheel just to keep the car straight.
Driving along at highway speeds the car feels fine and with light load still fades to the left slightly (which is how it should be in Australia) but then I sink the boot and hey hoe, right we go.

Just wondering if everyone else pulls right/left with torque steer or if it's an 'each car is different' kind of thing.
Car is open diff btw.

Cheers!

Did you set a new geometry?

he means wheel alignment dan. maybe its out a fraction, and that why it pulling right under load. given open wheeler diff and rhd in aus, if anything you should be pulling left, as the lhs cv cops most of the torque.

our cars should pull to the left under torque.

generally speaking, most cars should torque steer to the side with the shorter axle.

check your alignment, inner tie rods, axle nuts. if the car pulls harder from slow rolls 20mph, 40mph then it does at a 70 roll you may also want to look into the rear suspension.

I don't believe so, I popped the steering balljoint out of the hub and the lca from the hub and then pulled the shaft out. Didn't touch the suspension.

Yeah it still goes left under light load, but try putting some boost through it and it kind of shakes the wheel and starts going right.

Pulls the same at all speeds, it's just load dependent.
Did everything up tight as a nun's c**t and it was pulling right as soon as I drove it...I'm going to get under the car tomorrow and physically check the length of shaft is the exact same.

Why's that? Your roads should camber off to the right and ours go left, but our cars would still torque steer the same way yeah?

Thanks for the responses guys, keep them coming! Need to get this fixed before the next track day on the 16th!

Have you always had that steering wheel vibration? You should check the axle nut torque and verify the washer and castle lock cap is installed. With boost, it is easy for that nut to loosen if all the components are not there.

Nope, only since the new shaft. Washer is on, nut is on and done tight, I just used a breaker bar not a torque wrench. What is the torque spec anyways? Like a million ft/lb? Haha.
Split pin is through but I don't have a castle lock cap. Should probably just tax one from a wreckers.

LSD issues?

My car seems to pull pretty much straight but may 'skate' anywhere. Definitely have to pay attention. I can't say it pulls to one side every time or even pulls to a side at all. I think it depends on the road conditions more than anything.

does the new shaft have that rubber insulator in the middle like a OEM one does? that def. seems to help//

I swap one on everytime i get a axle without it
