EFRs are not that expensive once you consider
1) The wastegate design is as good as an external gate (which means, no external gate is needed)
2) the integrated CRV means you do not need a BOV
That is $3-$400 right there in just those two items alone. They bolt up to a stock T25 manifold and use the stock induction piping for the RWD SR crows (I have a tutorial for the 240sx/SR) and no need for provisions for wastegate dump tube and/or fab to recirculate ($$$), BOV flange and recirculation ($$$), etc. And in all honesty, this cleans up the engine bay immensely. Now, the issue is, with the FWD chassis, I am 50/50 on if they will fit. However, I have seen a GT30 stuffed in a bottom mount config (as you have shown us), so the B1 frame EFRs (which are all externally the same dimensions) should fit with nary an issue.
I have been through about 6-8 different turbos before getting to the EFR (on my second EFR actually as I upsized for this season): T25, T28, T3/T04E, GT2871R, S15 T28, EFR 6258 and (current) EFR 6758.
The GTX series IMHO, does not compare (atleast for my needs). And in my constant move to a simpler setup, the EFR fit the bill in every aspect. The GT/GTX series still have very date IMHO turbine wheels (although they work well) and that is where the "meat and potatoes" of a turbo is focused. The EFR is simply a leap ahead of the GTX and by the time I added up all the peripherals, I would have been in the red if I went to a GTX vs an EFR from a $$$ standpoint and will still be saddled with old school turbine tech. In addition, I am seeing EFRs pop up on the Bay for the price of a GTX or less (I still kick myself for not picking up a EFR 7163 Twin Scroll for 750 as they go for 2100 brand new!!! Grrrrrr!!!)
Vehicle: S14 with S13 SR, S4 cams, Nismotronic, SD, EFR 6758, etc. Worked great at the last Porsche Club of America trackday a week or so ago when I was able to pace a few 993s, 991s, a C6 and C7 Z06 and a few older Carreras to about 130 or so when launching from turn 10 at Summit. Not bad for a 20+ year old drift mobile lol
I also got good deals on my prior EFR kits:
1) I was the beta tester for the Future Fab EFR manifold. They now sell then EFR manifold for a little over $600 shipped. This is with the same material FullRace uses to fab their manifolds and I (think) a warranty
2) I picked up my first EFR kit (EFR 6258) for $950 (and it had a few goodies: modified exhaust mani, induction piping, all coolant/oil lines, high boost canister, downpipe and turbine ceramic coated)
3) Picked up a brand new EFR 6758 for about $950 shipped to my door
I could not pick up a GTX for anything less than $12-$1500.......and that was USED prices! Just didn't work in my favor and pretty much sealed the deal to go with the EFR as it was overall cheaper!
