funny Mike K or Dave Coleman did a article about his about 10 years ago. while the paint provides a stealth look it does not increase its performance. in some cases if the coat of paint is too thick it will hurt performance. if you want a more efficient ic buy a good one or get it swain coated.

The tests MCM did were to prove/disprove emissivity increases from painting it black... which they proved.
It is true though radiators/intercoolers are made for convection cooling not radiation.
To test the back intercooler on a car you'd need a lot of data to compare from low speed or bumper to bumper traffic.

the intercooler on my explorer is black but its also out of the sun deep behind a grill so it doesn't pick up any radiation from the sun.... but im betting ford just did it for stealth reasons and im willing to wager that its some kind of anodize which dissipates heat a little better rather than just spray paint.

I'd go with a swain coating. The stealth of black along with better cooling performance.

I decided to paint mine black also because I'm hoping it would stop Civic drivers from trying to get me to race. LOL
