Inspecting Turbo
I have a w10 avenir t25 setup that I got with a car. The guy said it needed a new turbo.. I am just trying to see what was wrong with it,so I can decide what to do with it. I would like to sell it since I dont need it,but I dont want to sell it in unknown condition.
However, the turbo has no in/out play and the turbine spins smoothly and is not damaged as far as I can see.I cant see any oil leaking anywhere either.

What else can I do to inspect this? Do I need to take it apart to inspect it further? Is there anyone to send it to for inspection besides gpopshop?
Thanks in advance for any help on this.I am just starting to dip my toes into the turbo world so please forgive my noobness

It's hard to tell if a seal just started to go bad. Check the turbine and compressor housing for oil residue. You could always get a rebuild/seal kit and rehab it but I'm not sure I would bother.

pull the compressor and exhaust housing. look for signs of oil and fin damage.

yeah the only thing I can think of is oil seals, or maybe bad threads into the center section for oil/water?
