Out of curiosity, what cams do you have?
For some reason, having done this what, three times now; something is really off.

There was a lot of valve train noise this time around. The engine ran very quiet the first 2 times. I have the vc off and it seems to be timed correctly. Is it possible it could be bad lifters? I primed them before I put them back in but they sat in the engine for 2 months getting turned all around as I was putting everything else back on the engine. Maybe they need to be rebled?

Also as I'm looking at it the chain looks a little loose too...

Replace your chain and tensioner. I highly doubt your problem is in your block. Your numbers are just all over the fucking place.

I have a used one from my 20ve has about 60k miles on it. Wasn't causing any problems but I replaced it anyway. If you need one to eliminate a variable, it's yours free

I finally got all the parts I ordered to make my FAA spec'd leak down tester. Just finished running the test on all 4 cylinders each at tdc with the cams out of the engine. At 80 psi on the input side the output psi read 1-4 as follows: 76 64 76 68. The 2 cylinders with more leakdown were the ones with horrible compression. I don't think the amount of leakdown was enough to generate the really low compression numbers I am getting though. Those leakdown numbers were on a cold engine with 0 miles on the bottom end.

While I was poking around in the engine I found some lifters that were VERY soft and squishy. Very easy to compress with one finger. I bled them myself last time the head was off and am 100 percent sure there was no air in them when they were installed. I have no idea what kind of mileage they have or the origin of these lifters. Seems to me like some of them are shot. The ones in the worst condition were on the cylinders with the worst compression also.

I'd love to hear some others thoughts on this. Im thinking lifters that don't stay firm won't let the valves open properly and not enough air will get in the cylinder to get good compression... thoughts?
