GTiR Initial Timing
Is the initial/physical timing on a GTiR setup differently than any other SR20?

SR20 Timing (from what I know) - #1 Cyl. at TDC, Intake cam key @ 10, Exhuast cam key @ 12, 10 links or 20 pins (same distance) between the marks.

I read somewhere online that someone had put 11 links between the marks... this doesn't sound right to me, but I want to be sure.

Thanks!

thats out of the fsm for a normal sr20, i believe its 9 links between dots and 20 pins or something like that... i've done several using the fsm an never had a problem, however im not sure on gtir, but i'd assume (could be wrong) that they are the same

its 9 links if you go between the dots, 11 links if u go from dot to dot.

Normal SR is 10 links or 20 pins (two pins per link). I've also built several SR20's this way with no issues whatsoever (only a couple degrees off of timing when setting with a light). I didn't think the GTiR would be any different, but reading that mess got my second guessing myself.

Its 11 if you count both dark links or 9 if you only count between them or 10 if you don't count the first one lol.. Tomato Potato

Let's stick to 20 pins.

If you look at a chain the marks are 9 links apart or 11 from link to link. Been doing it like that from day one. All SRs use the same marks. Now base timing on the Pulsar is 20 instead of 15, I guess to make up for the lower compression but I always ran mines at 15. Still pulled very hard though.

pins are the same, 20 degrees on ignition as stated and i almost ALWAYS have an issue with my timing chain skipping on initial start up regardless of how much i spin my engine before hand. i have my best luck first getting as much tension on the chain by hand then priming the engine with the fuel pump fuze pulled and all the plugs removed to get oil pressure up. i also still don't have one of those fine toothed timing chain tensioners which would probably help, its on my parts list ready to call into greg v.

point being even if its running and you think its right... check it after start up.

I've been running with 15 degrees of base timing with Nismotronic. I've been told that as long as the expected base time on the ECU and the engine are the same, then it shouldn't matter much. But AFAIK, the base timing is what idle runs at... so my engine is idling at 15 degrees. Anyone see this as being an issue? Possible power loss or other problems?

I have noticed a slight miss at idle that I don't feel at any other time (when the timing is calculated under load at higher amounts).
