Can't decide on which H-beams to go for: Eagles or Manleys
Hi guys,
so I'm trying to decide whether to go Manleys or Eagles for a rwd VET build. Motor will be revved to 8,5-9krpm. Not so sure on power level yet, but I'd like the rods to hold up to 600hp if possible. Done a few searches and nobody seems to have snapped either rods on sr20's. I found some Eagle vs Manley threads, but those are from 2009. I wonder if anything's changed in 2013.

Also, some claim that not all eagles are perfectly round at the big end and therefore need machining. I'm not sure if Manley's also suffer from this. Just by lookin at the two, Manleys seem to have the upper edge when it comes to quality. But I really wonder how well they stack up.

My engine builder recommended me Eagles. His experience is that Manley's take more time balancing than the Eagles..... and he's a Nissan expert. He tunes many of the big power Skylines found in Europe.

Other h-beams are acceptable, but just keep in mind I don't have an unlimited budget.

I have fell in love with Manleys. I would use them over eagles any day.

I have just brought some for my personal SR20VET Engine, have been using them in customers cars for a while now with no issues.

I have had no issues from my Manley's. I even measured them myself to see if they match the spec sheet. They are also slightly lighter than the eagles.

manley's are deff better then eagle.
all conn rods should be ckd on the big end + small end by your machinist.

im sure both manley and eagle's need to be resized as they are low quality.

i dont see why you would have a problem with either rod.

is this serious? i always thought you could just drop them in right out of the box... at least i've never seen others mention resizing is required. guys i know that build their motors just drop em in, so far none of them have had any problems. can anyone else confirm resizing of the manleys/eagles is required?

I'm not saying its completely nescessary. I'm sure for a drag engine you would be fine. But as far as longevity and ensuring proper bearing clearances.

Any rod you buy needs to be ckd. I don't care if there $800crower or $200 eagle. Rods need to be ckd and possibly honed to proper spec.

Ask any good machinist they will tell u the same.

Good thing I opened this thread then. Otherwise I never woulda known this! Thanks for the heads up!

As to which rod.. I guess I'm gonna stick to Manley, or if my budget allows it, BC sportsmans

Not a prob. Glad I could provide everyone with this knowledge. I'm sure other people will chime in with there knowledge.

I wouldn't hesitate to run either of those rods to 600hp. Only thing u may wanna look into is the tensile strength of the rods bolts. I know eagle runs diff rod bolts for diff rods.

Off the shelf eagles for SR will support 600plus. If u wanted to make upwards of that u may wanna change out rod bolts to ARP.

I always get my rods cut. New or not. Just a better piece of mind
