350hp goal need opinions
So my current Set up is De-t (2871R) with stock internals, VE metal head gasket and mazwork studs. My number 3 cylinder just lost compression and I'm thinking ring land. I have a spare low mileage jdm de block in the garage but I don't want to put it in for this to happen again. I'm thinking of getting some gtir pistons and seeing if that will hold. Only thing is my compression will go down and I'll have to send my ecu back to jwt. Any input on some other good cheap options that will meet my goal that will last?

tear the motor apart and figure out what happened. I ran my jdm de at 350whp for 5 years. It was still good when i took it apart to steal the crank and girdle. good tuning will make things last.

Yeah im take it apart but I want as little down time as possible. I think I'll have to get a different engine management too. What management did you use?

on the jdm de I had a jwt ecu with a safc-2 on top. I would look for something tunable. I am currently running a aem ems.

Find out what happened and why, fix that, and replace the engine with an identical one. Rinse and repeat 4 more times if your name is Ben Fenner.

It's been a long time and I forgot about this thread I started. Anyways the#3 ring land gave out and partially scored the cylinder and I know why too. I was having fun on my jwt ecu set for 91 octane with 87 Oct only because I planned on Long 350 mile drive with out getting into boost(being cheap). I now have another block in and just taking it easy until I get aem ems!

Figure out what happened of course..but if my DET ever blows, I'm going w/a roller rocker. Higher compression and newer. I know a lot of people say the RR doesn't handle boost well, but a local SR guy and my friend for over 5 years ran his b14 with a 28rs and over 22 psi every weekend for years w/no issues. That's enough proof I need. I think the higher compression will help this 2871R take it to the next level. I hope that day never comes, but if I was in your shoes I'd just get a RR or DE from the junkyard and tap it.

The block I have in it now is a 10:1 DE with a lowport head. It's very responsive and seems to work well with the 2871r
