Ok I was under the impression that 95-97 are the same and 98+ got a lot more emission items.(for the motor harness). I swaped a VE into my 97 and did not have to worry about repinning anything.

Iv been threw my 95(when I had it) and my 97 now and don't notice any difference.

They are the same ,got confirmation from a couple of other guys. I also justwent thru both harnesses and they are identical. I will be installing soon and will let you know

Here are the differences...

If you're looking at 98-99, you'll see I highlighted some things, pink are sensors on the 99 harness that are no longer used, if you are going older style OBDII you switch the ones highlighted in yellow to the corresponding pins. There is also a purple highlighted section on the 98-99, that's the ground wire coming off the downstream (2nd O2 sensor) make sure that wire off your 98-99 harness is grounded somewhere.

The plugs on anything OBDII will look the same.

I have also found the older style OBDII don't like the different style TPS on the newer style OBDII cars. I think it is a grounding issue and irregular voltage reading on startup, happens occasionally and will cause your car to idle strange (if you have a 98-99, newer sytle OBDII car and using older style OBDII ecu). I just supply an extra ground to the TPS on the newer style OBDII cars and problem seems to go away.

You're correct 95-97 OBDII are mostly the same, there may be some 97 models that share newer style OBDII pinouts, basically if you have a MAP, or EVAP emissions control (tubes running across top of your intake manifold) on your OBDII car, you got the newer style OBDII.

You'll want to make sure you are swapping over the same style ECU, otherwise you need to repin your harness. Its easy to get an older style OBDII ECU working on a newer style OBDII car (you're just omitting the newer sensors), than it is the other way around. Otherwise you need to wire in the missing emissions sensors on an older OBDII car using a newer OBDII style ECU.

Here's my experience, Josh you should know this lol. The swap I did first off was in an SE Ga16de, but it was a 98 engine to a 96 harness. From what I can tell 95 thru 97 are the same. 98 and assume 99 have 1. added EVAP, emissions stuff (ferrari mentions above on the intake manifold) 2. No pressure sensor on the high pressure power steering hose, 3. throttle position sensor has 2 sockets instead of one like the previous years. That being said (and again this is the GA16DE), Not having anything plug into the extra evap stuff, not having the high pressure sensor plugged in anywhere and only having one plug for one of the sockets on the TPS, car runs just fine, no CEL since the swap. I'm still running the 96 ecu/harness on the 98 engine. I imagine the sr20s would be similar but I only have a 95 SR20 with nothing to compare it to
