Thread: jim wolf daughterboard....transfer between ecus?

This seems like something that would be straightforward, if not a little tedious. and i know its not my only choice, BUT to make a long story short, my jim wolf ecu has a short that causes my tach to not exist. If put in another car, it does the same thing, and ive seen the damaged part on the board. Now, i wondered, has ANYTHING else been done to the factory ecu BESIDES a ROM daughterboard? if i just desolder the daughterboard, and transfer it to a GOOD factory b13 ecu, should i be ok? I know everyone likes tunability these days and would say get something else, and im all for it if your paying for it. BUT this ecu works, the cars FAST, and gets good gas mileage. i JUST want my tach. nothing else. any ideas on this folks? seems like its straightforward, but i just wanted someones input who knows. i have a small 2 inch tach i COULD put in my pillar pod, BUT id rather have my factory tach.

iirc there is another part on the board that gets moved to another contact so it reads the daughter board. Other than that you can remove the header pin and solder it to a new ecu. I was looking for the daughter board install instructions but I am unable to find them.

can definitely desolder the daughterboard and transfer it. Idk how jwt does their stuff but i know the calum you change the one jumper on the back and your good.

what cortrim mentioned was what i was getting at, i had read that in the more current modded ecus for our cars you had additional work besides the daughter board to modify. cool. good to know, just need to figure that part out.

Follow those instructions, it's pretty easy if you take your time and are comfortable with soldering. I've done quite a few successfully.

The worst part is the layer of sealant they put on the board, rest is straight forward.

borrow a consult. use calumsult and dump the jwt bin. get a DB and run the jwt bin on your new setup.... its gonna cost about 70bux. but atleast you will be able to fine tune that good running jwt bin. my2c

The sealant comes off fairly easily with some q-tips and some rubbing alcohol. But yeah, other than that, not bad at all.

I agree with blo0d, try to get a dump of your current tune and just move it over to a new daughterboard.
