b14 needs transplant want det need opinions on setup
FLAME SUIT ON>lol>have done hours of searching and reading...Just got home from florida. on my way my engine took a dump.on me.in fl it did the same. bearings were replaced. by maryland they spun again but worse sounds .i got it back home with a uhaul truck. now it sits in a garage waiting on a right decision.its a b14 . i do plenty of traveling long distance with it. engine had 193k on it. was looking into a jdm swap .so far im looking into a w10 or 11 det. the swap i wanna do is basically an oem swap.i have a ecu reprogrammed already along with a w10 front mount intercooler and w10 bov.looking to maintain a t25. just need a 2.5 downpipe.looking to keep my ac and ps cc.if the front mount wont fit i was thinking of going top mount and a hood scoop for proper ventilation but was curious about opinions on this route.
would i need to use a boost controller/gauge for a oem swap>?or use a walbro fuel pump with fpr>?already know cooling issues that this swap can have. this is the reason im doing an oem swap. need to source a better radiator.does anybody here have experience of taking their dets on 1500 mile trips?already have slim fans. need to decide if a nx radiator or gtir radiator would be good or aluminum if that dont work. anyones opinion is highly appreciated .thanks a lot in advance.

i know how to take engines out and put them in. im pretty good at retrofitting.know how to compensate for mods.have never rebuilt a tranny.removed reinstalled. did clutch flywheel jobs. have opened up engines n changed parts.wiring im minor.know how to run wire shrink wrap and solder.know how to change mostly anything on a car and repair.steering and suspension knowledge. tuning i have no knowledge. have a calum programmed for 8 to 1. 370cc 3 bar and de maf. not trying to go too fast because of the heat it can build and limit me of how far i can travel with the vehicle..reason im keepin exhaust 2 1.2 and using an oem w10 intercooler setup. or if easier cut the hood up to provide extra ventilation and go top mount.so far i just got bak from the garage and dissasembled so i can pull the engine out.waiting on a hoist.ac is tied up in my bay. really trying not to discharge the ac unless i have no choice.so without exp in tuning im a 5 or 6 i guess. dont know lol . you can rate it on what i mentioned brotha.

Sounds like you have the know how to save some money and just make your de into a de+t...much cheaper. I would've done it back in the day when I started if I knew about it. All you really have to do is drop the oil pans and tap the block for the return. The rest is pretty simple. You have a calum ecu also which makes it even easier. Just gotta do some reading brotha, check out the how to's and some of the members rides. I'd stick with a simple front mount before you go hacking up a good hood. We've already got some members around here doing that to make room for monster turbo's.

To each his own though, that's what makes it fun. Both motors have their pro's and con's which there's no need to get into (wealth of info. on here). Most common things are the fact that you have to set the de up for boost while you don't on the det...but the det isn't just a drop in and go either. Changing out dowel pins on the trans side. Making the axle carrier fit right, o2 sensor extension etc.

True.little improving to get it right.I got my engine ready to be dropped Sunday.just got to take the ecu plug out n fish it through the fire wall.ill drop Tue motor with the harness connected so I can reroute wires if needed to give me more slack if needed.ill cut n extend worst case scenario. Ill pop the number out tomorrow so I can drop motor and tranny at the same time.would it be wise to invest in some truck jack stands to get the car high enough to roll it out from the bottom?gotta get the front up at least 3 feet im thinkin to do it this way.wachu think?
