Compressor housing loose even with bolts tightened
Hey guys,

Might be a noob question. I noticed while doing maintenance on my car that my compressor side housing was moving. So I checked it out and it was rotation freely. I checked all mounting bolts and they were all tight. Any other ideas as to why it's so loose?

Here's the video:

Turbo is a holset h1c

thanks guys!

I don't know about Holsets but t25s compressor housings move where the giant C clip is if it isn't seated right. Is there something else besides the bolts holding the housing on?

Looks like there should be a large, flat ring or spacer of some type (that is missing) so those camps can get some grip.

yeah, there is a boost leak. after about 5-6psi, it still builds boost up to 10psi but with a trill.

the rebuild kit didn't come with anything like that. the housing is being held by 3 clamps with 2 bolts on each side. i'm thinking i should just make a type of thin sheet metal spacer to get the extra grip.

my hx40 did that on the turbine side right before the shaft broke on it. no idea why though it still bogles my mind. it was tight when i put it together.

I would make 100% sure that the compressor housing isn't going to clamp down on the compressor blade if you make a spacer for the back. It's entirely possible that there should be something between the compressor backing plate and the outer housing which would make everything work, and give the proper clearance for the compressor wheel. You following?

did it have a o-ring on the compressor housing? The turbo looks complete compared to the pic I found.
