Det oil Pressure
Hey guys.
Ive been doing some research and have found some confliction evidince.
I have an avenir det with a gtir t28 s4 cams and freshly rebuilt using OEM rings and ACL race bearings (I checked the bearing tolerance and it was at the high side of what the FSM says).
My question is once fully warmed up I'm seeing 10psi oil pressure at idle about 30 during cruising conditions and when I gas it it will only go up to 40. Now when its cold at start its 70-80 psi and as its warming up itll be about 40-50psi idle. BTW I'm using 15-40 and have an electric VDO vision gauge. Should I be concerned? Or is this normal behavior with the looser ACL race bearings? Thank you for your help.

If its of any value because of the turbo feed line being alumimum I had to use a hose clamp around the body of the sending unit to attach a pig tail for ground. I will double check my readings with a mechanical gauge but do my numbers sound like a cause for concern?

got a vvl oil pump... seeing 40psi at warm idle (900rpm) with acl bearings also

well im only seeing 10psi warm idle but its the DET oil pump. when warm its only getting up to 35-40psi at high revs

DET should be around 60 at higher RPM's, but honestly it might be your gauge too. I have a mechanical VDO gauge, and I see 10-20 psi on my VE at idle. But when I get on it it goes to 80. Cold it goes above 80.

I was just reading on this. If your pressure is thay low some pin has come out of your ve pump. Check your lower oil pan. I think ashton and a few other people had thay prob with the ve pump.

When I first start my det I can peg the oil press gauge at 100psi. As it warms it drops. Reg press at idle is about 8-12psi of pressure. Cruising should be at 40-60psi. Wot should be around 60-65 iirc. Haven't even driven my car enough to remember.

the chain oiler is what Mr. Wang Wang is talking about it is located above the gear on the crank between the chain. I'm not sure if it is visible with the valve cover off. (if it is still in place) . if it fell out you need to remove both oil pans and the timing cover to replace it. as far as I know this issue is only related to ve oil pumps.

Pin is fine, from what I can tell. Oil pressure gauge is not fine. Basically if you have a 100 psi oil pressure gauge and you take it above 100 psi, it stretches the diaphragm and will not read correctly.

On cold start I'm at 80 plus at idle, if I drive it and get on it slightly it goes well above 100 psi. Which is probably why it shows my idle PSI to be much lower then it actually is. Not using really thick oils helps preserve that pin from popping out too.

I have a 150 psi gauge that I wanted to install, but don't feel like it anymore. The gauges are all relative, as long as your PSI stays within your usual mark you are fine, if it instantly drops, you SOL.

Yeah if my gauge hits ZERO or suddenly drops from 60psi to 10 psi at the same rpm then we have a prob. Other then that I could care less! But are you sure about this diaphram stretching thing with the gauges or is that a theory? Mine has hit over 100 a few times. But it reads just fine. I have Autometer.

ok well I'll double check with a mech gauge but I guess its not making any noise and everthying else checks out so Im okay I guess? What do yall think
