This happened back in 06 when I first installed the motor. It ran fine and didn't sound funny.

Thanks for the info dude. I'm wondering if I was to get supertech springs and retainers and maybe valves if I could rev this baby to like 9K with the stock det pistons and rods without valve to piston contact??? Anybody??

On stock cams yeah, SR16's are a touchy subject. I know someone that runs then on his VE+T det short block and VE head and no touching. Then I hear some people say they bend the valves with SR16's on DET bottom end. Not sure if they were reving high on stock springs tho.

take ur det pistons get em machined for valve reliefs... more lift on sr16 cams, they should make contact.

WTF?!?! that can be done? will any good machine shop be able to handle this task?? Hmm stock DET pistons with valve reliefs machined in, then send them to jet hot and get them coated... But after all is said and done it may be cheaper to just get some CP VE pistons lol. I'm going to do some window shopping when i get home for sure

Cheaper? umm probably by a little after the whole thing but still have a far weaker piston. Waste of money to get them machined.

If your going to spend some money just get a set of VE specific aftermarket pistons or hell even some vet pistons if you can find a set. Far stronger ring lands that you wont ever have to worry about and stronger period. VET Pistons already have the coating on the skirts.

Up to you man. Just think its a waste to spend money on de/det pistons.

yep... agree, thought he had them already... and im sure he didnt plan on running 30psi on det stock pistons... machining them is just fine for your typical t28 setup...

locally, thats a typical and pretty reliable setup... to machine them here costs less than 50us

If you want a set of VE pistons I have a set with rods in perfect shape, just need to get a new set of rings for them. PM me if interested. They've never had valve contact or anything. Just need cleaned up as there is some carbon buildup on the tops but again they are in perfect shape. That would be your cheapest way to go. Yes the ve ring lands are thinner though so you would need to make sure to keep detonation away like anything else and they will be fine. There are many on here making what your trying to make on stock ve pistons.

This is always a touchy subject. I know your not the first or the only one to say this, but I ran my stock ve for a yr to 8k and never had any bent valves so idk what to think..
