Coheed, can you tell me the reason why you recommend to run a sprung clutch?? I have seen too many horror stories from running anything sprung and high horsepower (note: rephrase that, high torque, since the torque is what is being transferred through the clutch/flywheel setup and not actual HP)

Unsprung clutches have more harsh engagement characteristics. But sprung hubs lose springs. Pick your poison.

I broke 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and an input shaft of a P11 70V transmission. I was making well under 500whp. But the torque hit quick and hard.

I have never made over 500whp, but I sure did break a lot of transmissions. each failure was at a different point. I found some things that would postpone failure, but when you daily a car that makes 400+wtq it is going to break stuff.

It is really odd you managed to destroy 3rd gear on an early P11 gearbox with 270 WTQ so quickly. Maybe that dyno was reading way low? Maybe not? Sounds fishy to me though.

Let's be real here. Even at 12,000 rpm you would need 437tq. A B13 transmission wouldn't last one pull. They just can't take that much twist.

id say you had a weakend or already damaged p11 box. i had a p11 box and beat the piss out of it at 280whp. beat the ever living piss out of it at 305 whp. then made 400whp and beat the shit out of it. only thing that ever went bad was the diff, wich i replaced with a de box diff.

and when i say beat i mean like thrashed it hard.

I went through 3 gearboxes, that's when I figured out the QG stacks were the same. So I rebuilt a couple boxes and sold some. I only broke 2 QG stacks. So total I'm talkin like 8 gearstacks across 4 gearboxes between my car and Element's G20.

We cleaned out the state junkyards of QG stacks and B15/P11 boxes... I wonder if there are any available now?

None of these vehicles made over 500whp, but they are heavy.

maybe the weight had alot to do with it. i was prolly 2300lbs at most. a heavier car would deff be a bigger impact to the trans.

Sorry about the bad info the gearbox was a sr16 LSD gearbox

I was running act extreme kit with a six puck non sprung disc and redline heavy shock proof oil.the strange thing to me is I had this gearbox on a w10 det doing 350whp with a china t3 turbo and shitty gearbox oil.I didn't even get to rough up the car this time And the gearbox broke but I most say d power felt waaaaaaay different

60,000 Dremel motors at 30,000 rpm.

i did 400whp @ 18psi on 93 oct on the same turbo, same mani, but internally gated, 3inch dp and ex, built 87mm det with s4's etc etc. shit ran extremely hard.

good luck.

I am not running ve pistons I am running turbo pistons as soon as I make good enough power with these stock TURBO DET pistons I will slap in my forged

You see, when people make this assumption, they fail to realize that when the gearbox was running "good" they could have done (or been doing) serious damage during this period and for it to "break" would have been one more pull at a much lower torque level. Essentially, this is an assumption which holds no water in gearbox reliability

Can someone confirm; the SR16 box is not much stronger than a B14 lsd box, correct??
