ss autochrome turbo sr20 manifold experiance?
ok......this is not a "i need a cheap manifold" attempt. but i want to try them. i have a friend whos run 2 of them with great results, one on a 7mgte and one on his 2jzgte. the 2jz is well north off 500 hp on the dyno, and hes had no trouble with the manifold. no cracking, nothing. WHICH brings me to my question. has anyone on this forum tried a ss autochrome turbo for either a rwd or fwd sr20 and what was your experiance? ive heard that the supra guys in particular have had great luck with THEIR manifolds, but i havent heard much other than those engines. anybody?

You should just be the guinea pig. Try it out and let us know!

If your going to buy it... see if you can purchase the Pulsar one that ships out of the UK. A few people have given their opinions on the pulsar owners club forums... I was going to buy one... but the consensus is that you can make up to 400whp on the stock avenir/pulsar manifold. Since the SR20det manifold is t2 flanged, that really limits you turbo's that put out around that much power.

Theoretically it should smooth out flow, especially if you port match everything properly... The only other real benefits i saw is its shiny, and its cheap... The drawbacks are it has thinner walls and is subject to cracking, which can be easily solved with bracing the turbo inlet flange to the head flange. It will be a little more hot in your bay (which isn't a big deal with me, especially if you wrap it). Some said that some of the holes on the exhaust flange don't line up the way they would like... some tested before and after and lost like 4whp peak hp (which doesn't mean anything). But others praise it.

I chose to rock a pulsar manifold and just get the exhaust manifold ported a little bit... but if you don't have one I say go for it. If you plan on staying with a t2 size you can rock it... Like I said, they also sell a t3 flanged tubular header that is a top mount I believe... but I don't think anyone has bought it and tried it that's taken the time to report about it. I honestly was about to buy it but couldn't justify selling my my stock one.

I don't see anything wrong with trying it out... It's obviously not the crafstmanship of an 800 dollar tubular manifold, but it doesn't cost that much either... worst comes to worse you can sell it.

Exactly..that's why I stopped looking into a custom manifold.

Also, if you do a custom manifold, you will probably have to get a custom downpipe and modify other stuff. I'm not up for the added expense and difficulty.

I have a friend who has a couple of ka mani's from them, and he's had no problems. he bought two off someone for dirt cheap, thinking that if one lasted a year and the other one lasted a year, then he woyuld have time to save up for a decent one, but i think it's been two years on the first one with no problems. He's still hanging onto the second one, but I think that if it makes it for two years, it's gonna be ok.

OK, News Flash here...

NOTHING from SSAC ships out of the UK!!!! They ALL still get shipped from this @$@ warehouse in North Carolina (I think it was NC!!!)

How do I know?

I ordered one from the UK so I would not have to go through Customs and pay those #$@^@#%&^ stealing cheats from FedEx for "Agency and Clearing Fees" .... US$ 150 OVER the shipping charges AND OVER the normal customs charge . <-- and these numbers are accurate, we had paid that much on a previous header shipment!!!

eBAY auction said "ITEM LOCATION: UK", and naturally, I got a notice from FedEx that it was shipped from NC!!!! Tried to negotiate, complain, etc. and they told me to go ahead and PAY MYSELF the extra US$150 those $#@$%@^$# bastards wanted and THEN to fax them my invoice and tehy would refund me! Would you do it?

I did not, they refunded what I had paid them in GBP and I lost 8-10% of the total in exchange fees from Euro-to-GBP-to-Euro.

Nothi ng gets shipped from the UK. Now, if this changed in the last 6 months I may be wrong.

As for the quality of the manifold, it seems to depend on the batch and the specific China-person that welded it! Normally there are no problems but there have been at least two reports of turbo exhaust manifolds that disintegrated pretty fasdt!

yeah....i had just wondered what peoples experiance was. ive had a couple of these cars, and always had gtir manis. as to the downpipes and everything, when you have access to the throwaway bins of a buddies speed shop, pretty much anything can be found. just wanted to see how a t3 spools up, basically. that and the t25 setup i bought off here STILL hasnt gotten to my house
