Oil cooler install problem, odd oil filter housing, do i really have to?
Ok came to the problem today, i was secretly hoping my car didn´t have the long version stud, it has... i already bought a mocal oil cooler and thermostatic oil sandwich plate from mocal also(expensive)... and lines...

I´ve researched on the subject and some people simply cut the part of the stud that´s not treaded, but the filter is soo big with the sandwich plate that it hits the suspension torret... WTF!?

And how do i cut it in place? It´s possible but a nightmare...

The sunny GTI already as a oil to water cooler on it, like the gtir, but the filter is in high position like the sentras... Being soo do i really need a second oil cooler? i´m not going to race it, just enjoying it on the street very rarely...

I´m going to change the oil very often too...

Opinions please

I had to cut mine but i did not do it in place as it is very risky to contaminate the engine with metal shavings from the cutting.

The best way to do it is to remove the oil filter stand and cut it and clean it it thoroughly before re installing. IIRC it is 3 12mm bolts that can be accessed from the rear of the engine (may have to move PS pump out of the way) and has 2 small circular seals inside of it.

The shavings prob may be solved if you stuck very tightly a rag down the stud and removing it very very carefully...

And removing the oil stand is out of the question, it´s a nightmare, it´s a sunny, not a sentra, so alot of stuff going down there, ihave to remove the PS pump, and the oil stand has an integrated oil to water cooler, so harder still, i would have to remove a halfshaft to, it´s that tight... the stand is way bigger...

Do i really need to have a oil to air cooler, despite the air to water?

I see. Well what are your oil temperatures reaching on hot days?

you should install an Oil temperature gauge and see where your temperatures are for various conditions of driving. If they are reaching dangerous levels, then you may need the oil cooler, but if even on hot days you are within safe operating temperatures then não é necessário

I´ve just installed a oil temp and pressure gauge, but the senders are not in yet...

I know that normal oil temps should be like 90º to 100ºc on normal driving and never beyond 120/130deg depending on oil used...

And wtf! do you speak portuguese?

Nevertheless good advice, maybe i just monitor the oil temps after the install and act accordingly... just a pita about the money i already spend...

Yeah I would watch your oil temperatures for a while, moreso in the summer on very hot days then decide whether you should go forward with it or not. It definitely wont hurt if you manage to install it properly...if you decide you dont need it you can always try to sell the set up on the classifieds here or on eBay or something and recover some money or save it for another project in the future..

Eu falo um pouco, sou espanhol (galego), nosso dialeto é semelhante ao Português
