help with w10 motor
Hey guys. So, I was excited today to see my w10 motor go into my car. Well, at the last minute, a friend of mine asked if I ever tried to turn the motor by hand. And what you know, I never did try and it didn't turn. We then got it to turn, but its not doing a complete turn more like 3/4. So, there goes my day and had to put the motor back on the stand. I took off the lower and upper oil pans to get access to see the bottom end. I don't see anything wrong and the pistions are moving like they should. I even lubricated things that would seize up. Then I searched and found some things and saw things like the chain getting stuck somewhere, a stuck valve since the motor has been sitting for a long time for god knows how long, the tension might be bad.

Ive also read things like to spray wd-40 on the cylinder walls from the bottom end and also on top of the pistons. Can a small amount of rust on the cylinder walls really make it really really hard to crank the motor 1 full turn? Since I work 2 jobs and have only 1 complete day to work on my motor, I checked out the tensioner and there's nothing wrong. So, since its the end day, and I have to go back to work at my 2nd job tomorrow afternoon, I won't be able to pull off the front cover to see whats really going on until next monday. I decided to post this to get different opinions and help and someone to point me in the right direction. Thanks

Did you take out the spark plugs when you were turning it? The resistance you felt could just be compression.

hey guys, I talked to a local and told me what to do and I spent all night stressing about it, but this morning I went down to the garage and tried to turn the crank again and prayed then it was stuck, but then i said f*** this and turn a little bit harder and it turned, now it turns free and so smooth.

What I did last night, was lubricated everything on the head and inside the block since I tore everything off. I used wd-40 and sprinkled some marvel mystery oil(thank you miko for bringing that up on a thread on here) then let it soak. So now everything is fine, I gotta put everything back and replace the crank, might just get the gspec one, and then put the tranny on and have to customize the front motor mount since this swap is being done in a p11.

At least nothing was bent/broken. Seems like it just needed some motivation to turn over.

I wonder if you put this in the car if the starter would have had the force to turn it over and start.

I think if i put it in the car and had it started the crank would seperate.thats how hard it was to turn in the first place.then my friend put a large flat head behind the flywheel and got it to turn a little.then thats when it wouldnt turn all the way through.my friends and i hella tried.thats when we thought something was wrong and i read some things on the forums and i didnt see anything compared what some people said to check, like the chain being stuck somewhere.so i lubricated the bottom end and hoped nothing was broken, i left it over night and turned it and voila, it turned smoothly.and i kept on doin it with a smile.hehehehe.
