arp stud for gtir
Im looking at putting some arp stud in my gtir motor, I searched around and found that there is an issue with the arps haveing a bad design flaw and not bottoming out on regular sr20s but that they do bottom out on gtir heads so they are okay to run on gtir and not other sr20s, just wanted someone to verify this is correct or if i should scrap the arps and just use the stock gtir ones thanks in advance. Hps gonna be around 350-400

I'm running GTI-R ARPs with no problems. Currently making high 400hp at 25psi with no sign of trouble.

thanks kev, just read alot of bad about em, but mostly it was on regular sr20s. Now the only other worry i got is the headgasket, i got a cometic but again have read bad about that, think the cometic will be okay as well? oh and what are the torque specs on the arps?

From what I've read, there are 2 different ARP headbolt/studs available for the SR20, one designed for the GTI-R and another for the FWD/RWD SR20's. IIRC, the GTI-R's are bigger or something like that....(somebody correct me if I am wrong)...

GTI-R's are bigger. They are just a little smaller than the 1/2 inch head stud upgrade that some people do. I would ditch the cometic HG. On most cars that i see with the cometic they seem to have problems with pushing back water over 20 psi of boost. I heard the Cosworth HG is very good but I haven't used one yet.

ARP's don't bottom out and have been blamed for numerous failures here in the UK. I know several engine builders that refuse to use them. Stock GTiR bolts are very good; I know one guy that ran 620bhp on stock bolts with no issues

This is happening on gtirs in the uk? If im not mistaken i think the arps for the gtir actually do bottom out because they are diff than the other sr20s. Im thinking of just running stocks anyway.

What do you run for a headgasket kev? what about a 20v stock headgasket 25 psi will be the most im boosting.

yeah iv read a ton of threads that say the 20v is the best to run and for the price you cant beat it. I beleive it may be a ton better to run that the cometic so i think i may just go pick one up and run it instead of the cometic.
