it was 178psi across all four cylinders. The motor was very clean on the inside when I pulled it apart. I paid $200 dollars for this motor

I have my current DE boosted but I'm looking for a bit more power. Current DE just dosnt feel "right" and kinda feels like its going to go if I put more power into it. The price for a DET vs a VET are about the same and was just wondering on a couple things.

yea for 350hp a de is fine, but having a ve+t is also nice

IMO the VE setup just adds complications to everything and isn't worth it for under 400whp

If you want the lower compression of the DET, just put your Lowport head on the DET bottom. Lowport = better flow and you don't have to modify your piping. As far as the VE+T, I don't think it's too worth it if you ever plan to make more power because the cam selection. On the other hand, the VE is a LOT easier to work on and is an awesome motor. Just keep your DE and do some supporting mods.

Yea which is a major reason why I stood with a de. I thought about doing a ve head swap, but it was just cheaper and eaiser for me to upgrade my turbo then to go through all that for the same power goals.

Hobbs, good thread, maybe we'll meet up one day.

Won't be using anything from my current DE, I have no oil pressure on startup for about a second and fear this has lead to valve train noise along with putting the journals for the cams out of spec and really would like to start off with a lower mileage motor. For the same price of getting a det block(new bearings and seals), ve oil pump along with S4 cams I'm at the cost of clean VE.

I also like the idea of having regular cam profiles for DD use and can switch when I feel like getting on it.

with a VE+T, couldn't you get away with much less boost to reach 350 hp goals?

Bingo!!!!! VE-t is da new craze. I have one and i have a 2.4ve also, if you didn't get the turbo yet, get a 2871 with an .86 back housing. It will make your goals on 18lbs. I have the same setup that you listed for your VE also.
