Thread: Okay...now I'm stumped.

Just the other day, I went to start my 96 b14 and it started in limp mode. Thought I had a bad MAF. I did. Changed the maf for another that I KNOW works, but it still not showing any airflow. Tried regrounding the maf to the intake, checked voltages, everything is good. But, on my safc2, it STILL shows NO airflow. Even checked the wiring at the ecu.

No vac leaks or anything of the sort, but the cel is on. I don't have a scanner to check it.

You guys have any ideas before this thing drives me nuts?

Sounds like maybe the MAF part of the wiring harness has an issue? Sorry, I'm not great with MAF issues or getting out of limb mode.

connect the maf back to the ecu with out the safc2. this will help narrow down the issue.

^^I'll have to try that in the morning. I stuck out the 17 degree temp as long as I could.

Do continuity checks between the ECU TO SAFC then from the MAF to the back of the SAFC. It seems like a broken wire to me.
One quick note: the SAFC MAF voltage on the screen fluctuates even with the engine off and the key ON.

check for breaks in the wiring harness, typically right next to the connector, they're hard to see unless you really really look. But if the wires are bare they'll arc to each other and wreak havoc.

I was going to check it out this morning after I got home from work, but it's too damn cold. It's supposed to be AT freezing by tomorrow morning though. I'll get out there then. I sure miss having a garage.

One thing I did think of though, if everything checks out on the ecu end, would running a new wire from the maf signal to the safc2, then to the ecu help? Or does the 5v signal splice into anywhere else? I figure it should be a straight shot from the maf to the ecu.

have to check out the fsm on that one. Oh by the way be careful bending old wiring harnesses around when it's really cold out...really good way to crack the insulation on them.

Yeah...found that out the hard way. lol. I found a couple of places where the insulation broke.

I couldn't just connect the stock maf to the ecu, because my stock one is bad. So I couldn't just bypass the safc2. I did however run a new 5v wire from the e60 maf to the safc2. That seemed to work. I also re-wired the connections between the safc2 and the ecu with heavier gauge wire that has better insulation.
