Dre why won't a SR18DE block accept a VE head?

Also, if that's not possible, can't you just throw the SR18DE crank in a SR20 block with new rods and pistons to keep it 1.8 and then still run the VE head.

sr18de has 86 (sr20 crank) and the sr20 rods. the pistons are smaller (83)

Ah ok. Cool never knew that.


In that case I think a SR17VET might be yoru best option. I'm sure it the VE head will make it faster than a SR18DET could be. But its just an educated guess.

Its already been said. The bore is sooo much smaller then the sr20 cc that the valves will hit the cylinder walls....

I really like the idea of a big bore short stroke motor.

And the reason I said earlier that the big bore will flow more then the sr18 is because not only would you be using the ve head but the fact that the bore is physically larger will actually increase flow. The further the valves get from the cyl walls the easier it is for them to flow.... two identical heads on two motors identical other then bore.... the laerger bore will flow better period

ok. standart sr20det cp-pistons 8.5 piston will give about 7.5 cr into a sr16ve. am I right.
the only easy way to fix the problem is a
Nissan SC7341V SR20VE/VET 3.406 (86.5mm) cp pistons
it will give about 10 cr and make some work with the combustion chamber - enlarge it to 87mm and increace it by some cc.

if your going for a 16ve cranked engine you will need custom 92mm pistons anyway to get to 1.8 or has that idea gone?

thats what i was thinking. what happened to 92mm bore with the 16ve crank? sounds like the best idea to me so you can use a ve head.

yes. this idea is the best, but not a budget for me this year.

I already have the sr20det, cometic gasket and the sr20ve head ready to install. So I have decided to change rods, crank and the bearings.
the pistons are not in my plan. For now it is too costy to me. It has left to spend some $ for the clutch, oil system, tuning.
and I want to race in the summer 2011, not to build.

If I go for the new pistons - they will be 92mm fo the sure and the good sleeves.

A standard 8.5-1 compression DET piston will be about 6.2-1 in a SR16VE.
