VE oil pump or not?
So im rebuilding my SR20DE, with eagle rods and 8.5:1 pistons and plan for 400+ whp. Im tryin to decide whether or not to get a VE oil pump. With the VE pump i see you need to use a spacer to make the pulleys line up. GSPEC sells the pump, spacer and pulley for around 350? will it be worth it or should the stock DE pump cut it. Also if i get the kit, i want to get the rest of the pulleys, should i just get the same size pulleys and just lighter wieght?

I wanted a ve pulley for my de+t. I couldnt get ahold of one and it was holding up my build. i went with a oem de pump. Im making 400whp so u too will be fine. A ve pump is nice but in no ways a neccessity, tue de one is just fine.

Are you planning on running oil squirters? If so, the VE oil pump would be a good idea. Otherwise it is really just a luxury and not a necessity.

You can install one for much cheaper than $350 if you get a used VE pump from a forum member (Miko probably has a few) and get the spacer from Greg for about $12. Then get a used stock VE pulley (with harmonic damper) for real cheap from someone with a VE who's upgrading to a aluminum pulley or who just has one laying around (Miko again maybe). You should be able to get all the parts together for $140 or so. That's how I did mine.

I love the ve pump, Night and day difference in oil pressure. The de is already susceptable to bad oiling. So any help anywhere especially in the oil pump are a plus. Again maybe not entirely a necessity but if you plan on going to some decent power. I would highly recommend it. Find someone parting a ve out and you can do it cheap.

Im running a ve pump and love it.

You can't go wrong with a VE pump especially with a Turbo car. Is it a must? No but, it is a plus.

10w-30 mobil 1 or AMS oil for the street and 15w-50 on track days.

Has not failed me with years of abuse.

I always used 15w-50 Mobil 1 with mobil 1 filter. The bearings, crank, cams, journals, and cylinder walls and piston skirts all perfect. Spotless after 11k miles of rediculous absolute torture
