need help with downpipe choice
i was about to order the VRS SS Downpipe but dont know which one to get. the BB one or the GTI-R one.

this is why.. i have a JGY Manifold which puts the GTi-R turbo on stock location, GT2871R turbo on a BB J pipe. so yea im kinda .

so which one u guys think would work? BB or GTi-R one..

guess nobody knows.. will have to hit the exhaust shop and make it custom then..

You need the BB one. The reason there are two different downpipes is because the j-pipe bolt locations are different between the two. You have to match the downpipe to the j-pipe.

Agreed. Fitment depends on the J-pipe.

When you guys mix match parts you have problems.

First off

You have GTIR Manifold which goes with GTIR J pipe.

You have Bluebird-Aveneir Manifold which goes with Bluebird-Aveneir J Pipe.

This is why VRS has 2 down down pipes.

If you put GTIR manifolds with Bluebird J pipe

or

If you put Bluebird-Avenier manifolds with GTIR J pipe

YOU GOT BIG PROBLEMS BECAUSE NOTHING YOU BUY WILL FIT.

GTIR Manifold sits lower than Avenirer-Bluebird

Aveneir-Bluebird manifold sits higher up than GTIR manifold

GTIR down J pipe is shorter

Aveneir-Bluebird J pipe is longer

So now you see the problem.

That makes it sound like there won't be a problem at all. The GTi-R manifold sits low, so it has a shorter j-pipe to make the mating surface end up in the same place as the BB manifold/j-pipe combo. No?

Se-rious_93, all you'll have to do is call VRS and ask them if their two downpipes are identical except one of them has the j-pipe flange rotated compared to the other. If that's the case, then get the BB downpipe (and be prepared to return it in case VRS gave you bad info). If that is not the case, then you're looking at a custom piece.

BenFenner, What did you not understand.

He has a JGY manifold that sits it like a GTIR manifold lower and further from the block

So of he gets a GTIR J pipe, all he has to do is buy the GTIR down pipe.

There is no down pipe made to match a GTIR style manifold with a Bluebird-Aveneir J pipe.

I still don't understand why.
I'm not surprised though with the quality of the explanation. I will just have to take your word for it.

Se-rious_93, if you're willing to get a GTi-R j-pipe on there (I could sell you mine) then you'll be in good shape for a GTi-R downpipe it seems.

BenFenner lets take a hammer to the hard head with the facts.

1. We know there are 2 DPs made, There is one made for the GTIR manifold with GTIR J pipe. There is another one for the Bluebird-Avnerir Manifold and Bluebird-Avnerir J pipe.

So we have established there are 2 diffrent down pipes one for GTIR and one for Aveneir-Bluebird.

2. We know the ( Part A ) GTIR manifold and ( Part B ) Aveneir-Bluebird manifold are diffrent and we know the ( Part C ) GTIR J pipe and ( Part D ) Aveneir-Bluebird J pipe are diffrent.

3. So if we mix and match parts there will be no matching DP for his combination. What is his combination. GTIR Manifold by JGY fittment with Aveneir- Bluebird J pipe.

GTIR manifold + GTIR J pipe = GTIR down pipe

Avenier-Bluebird manifold + Avenier-Bluebird J pipe = Avenier-Bluebird down pipe

GTIR Manifold + Avenier-Bluebird J pipe = no down pipe made ( so must be made custom with car there)

Avenier-Bluebird manifold + GTIR J pipe = no down pipe made ( so must be made custom with car there)
