VE Head + S13 DET Block = Valve Touching!
So we just finished putting together my P11 VE Head on RWD S13 DET Block, the head and block was mildly decked and i used a VET Head gasket,
When we finished and try turning the engine its locking (valve is touching pistons)

I thought everyone say this will work , not so for me, and its not even the high lobes making them touch.

what the hells going !!

If your touching just turning it over something is not right. Check cam timing.

There is no way it will touch turning it over by hand on the small lobes. The only way this is going to happen is if your cam timing is off. This means you have the cam gears on the wrong spot on the chain or you have the crank gear on the wrong spot on the chain

Yeah your cam timing is off for sure. Ive done the ve head swaps onto de and det blocks before without issues on low or high cam lobes.

i put one on a ve on det block counted 11 teeth and no issue

put the engine at TDC, make sure that the discolored chain link that represents the timing mark lines up with the dot on the chain, and that they are at 11 o'clock(intake) and 2 o'clock(exhaust) if your number 1 piston is not at TDC when the marks are in this araingement, then your timing is fukucted.

You guys are making it way too difficult. Put the engine at TDC with the cam lobes pointing away from each other. Your dowel pin on the exhaust cam should be at 12 oclock position point straight up. You will know if its off. Take your dot on the exhaust cam gear and count the pins going to the dot on the intake cam gear. There should be 20 pins (pins holding the links together) between the dots on the intake cam and exhaust cam. The dowel pin on the intake cam should be at the 10 oclock position.

If any of them are off when your at TDC your timing is off and you need to correct it.

Again you will know when its off, cuz if the exhaust cam dowell pin is not pointing straight up to 12 oclock, its off. One tooth off you will recognize it. Trust me. Dont question it. Put it where it needs to go and then you can set the intake cam accordingly. As long as you get the exhaust cam right, count 20 pins over from the dot and put the dot on the intake where it needs to be to have that 20 pin count between them.

Simple and easy enough. Done this a million times and have yet to get it wrong. Done it explaining it over the phone probably 3 times now and all 3 said it worked like a charm without problems.

Thanks for the info guys , one of blasted shims fell out and suck between a valve spring, engine is turning freely now
