that tq seems low for a t28. something must be up.

my gtir t28 with s4 cams and a jwt ecu and safc2 made 303whp and like 265ish tq this was all on 15psi.

Don't you usually get less torque when you advance the timing? I know Ben likes to tune to the very edge so that may be why the torque is so low (compared to the hp)

Why does that seem low? It was on 10.5 PSI. 237fl-lbs of torque is about right for that much boost. He just made as much horsepower as you on a completely stock motor and with 5psi less boost.

Your onto the right track. If you have low timing, you can bump the timing and it will increase your torque. However there will be a point in which you have too much timing, and you will actually begin to loose torque. This is never wanted, unless you are trying to shape your power delivery.

Ben just uses less boost and a proper tune to keep the torque low and HP high. He isn't advancing timing to the point of less torque/power.

Although no real answers were given then. The difference between my setup and yours is actually basically explained in post #18 of the thread we're in now.

You used 15 psi and that's going to give your high torque number. However you ran into restrictions and other factors later on in the rev range that limited you to 303 WHP. I'm using 10.6 psi (and that's where my low torque number comes from) and I have less resctrictions and heat soak later on in the rev range so I make 303 WHP with that 10.6 psi. (I know you have S4s but I have a lowport head, higher static compression and arguably superior intake and exhaust plumbing).

All else being equal, proper timing will increase power/torque. The torque figure differences Stratton is talking about isn't really related to ignition timing. The peak power numbers however likely are. Good timing up top gives high power numbers and maybe that makes the torque look low in comparison?

I'd put it differently, but this is basically the case. I like to do as much as I can so I don't have to run high boost numbers. I'll optimize everything else before turning up the boost. So I'll stretch 11 psi further than most.
That being said, I still don't have the timing for my 9.5:1 engine down properly yet. I've been much too aggressive in the past and I've gone back to square one. That 303 WHP tune was not engine-safe at all and I'm doing what it should take to get the efficiency back without going to extremes with timing. I've been screwing up big-time with my engine lately and it's been a hard learning experience because things went so well with this very same methodology for the BMW and the 8.5:1 DET in the S13. As this molasses train keeps moving I'll be letting everyone know how it goes.

Its flowing better. Its a much more efficient set up.. low tq just goes to how its flowing. And samw whp w less boost..
