On the VET cams, did Nissan do away with the VVL on the exhaust side?

I had a modified GTIR manifold with external on VET. Made more power with SR16 cams than stock SR20.

Log manifolds don't like overlap at all... No surprise. If you want to compare cams do it on a manifold with some runner length so you can actually compare cams and not limitations of log manifolds.

....i am a little confused now because of the differences in statements to cams - turbo - manifold setups on VE-Ts

coheed stated very bad engine power (260 whp @ 15 psi) with sr20VE cams and a log manifold on his GT3076 .64, and almost no improvement on the high lobe.

SOLSOL also had bad numbers with a small turbo and a log manifold on Sr20VE cams

Kevwal stated to have over 400whp @??psi with a stock GTI-R manifold (which is log type i guess) on sr16VE cams on his T28 turbo. (i guess using high lobe?) These are excellent numbers for a T28.

So the question is: Does anybodyelse have concrete experience with smaller turbos on VE-T setups with different types of manifolds?

The question if you really need a long runner mani on NA-VE cams is not finally answered.

The car seems to be making correct power for the mods it has. Key points here that

keep this car under 250whp ... 6 lbs of boost, JWT Tune, and a 2.5" Exhaust.

Up the boost to 10-12, get rid of that tune, and get a 3" exhaust and you will deff see

over 250whp. Forget trying to mess with manifolds, cams, or any of that unless you are

trying to make huge power. Your power increase moving to different cams or a tubular

manifold will not gain you the power you think...

Kevwal is using a modified gtir manifold. They are pulse tuned from the factory and when modified flow pretty well. Plain a simple do not use a log manifold on a ve-t. Solsol car made lower numbers due to the tune and exhaust size. Also I don't know what kind of dyno was used but that can also make a big difference in numbers.

@91B13DET@: with manifold i mean exh.-manifold Not intake manifold.

Even if the GTI-r exh-manifold ist à Pulse-Type it still has very Short runners and should Not work with Big overlap sr16ve cams

when run external gate and ported it works well. I have seen several ve-t's make over 400whp with sr16 cams using a gtir manifold modified for a external gate.

nissan didn't do away with the VVL altogether. The small lobe on the VET cams is always on. The car is always louder with the VET cams

You basically run 11mm exhaust on all the time. This helps spool the turbo. The intake kicks hard at 6500rpm or so, but you can get a smoother graph by kicking at 5k.

The VET cams have more lift than the 2.0 cams, but 20* less duration.

I do not agree. I first hand have seen VE-T's do very well with log manifolds. Again Giosr20ve's car made 475 whp 19 psi with a log manifold and a 60-1. His car is pretty much up to par with all the other VE turbo cars if not better.

Is it the best option? No but, they do work well.

- confusion -

SE-Rican, could you ask for the concrete specs of Giosr20Ve´s engine setup? No VET cams?

The results just lay too far away to end this discussion...come on guys...lets workout knowhow....
