Thoughts on exhaust cut outs
Well I tried searching a little couldn't really find any info. I came to the conclusion that the open 3" downpipe has to change, its so annoying, I can't stand it anymore. I can't afford a full 3" exhaust, plus it'll still be loud anyway. Then I thought about getting my dad to weld up some cheap 3" piping with a beast resonator and running a side exit. Then the other day I drove my friend's vr6 turbo gti with a small exhaust and it was so quiet, it makes my car that much worse. I still have my old 2.25" pacesetter catback from when I was n/a, but I'm only running 7psi, so I'll take all the free hp I can get. Thats when I got the cutout idea. I just wanted to get some feedback from some people who have/ have had experience with exhaust cutouts; specifically who makes good quality ones that aren't junk.

VES-ASSEMBLY - out of stock again until unknown date due to production delays : atpturbo.com
i used one of these on my turbo setup with a 2" exhaust after the cut out. it worked awsome to keep the sound down till i steped on it then it was like having no exhaust at all.

Are you talking about electric cut outs or just the removable plate style? As you may already know the electric style is more expensive. I ran a 3'' removable plate style cut out. It cost me $50 from jegs.com. Only issues is that you may have clearance to ground issues. My cut out was almost 2 inches from the ground and the ride height of my car is not even slamed.

ebay ftw $26 for a 3" cutout with removable plate. You can install the electric part on it at a later point but I found no use for the electric part and never spent the extra cash for that.

Thanks for the repiles guys. I ended up ordering the 3" cutout from jegs with an electric cutout. After shipping it was just under 200 bucks. Mr. sentra, that cutout you posted is probably the best idea i've seen. Too bad I just drained my bank account on this. I so woulda bought that if I had the money.

I should be okay tho, I always wanted a car with a switch that makes it go faster.

Yah, I would have recommended a boost actuated cut-out as well if I'd caught this thread earlier. The ATP one though isn't great. The cut-out should have preferential flow if you can manage that under the car.

I would have to disagree unless they have recently upgraded the plastic gears inside their motors. I have had one fall apart and my good friends also fell apart after some time. They also have subpar customer service in my opinion.

Welcome to DMH Performance! is a good place and the cutouts haven't had any issues.

You will like the switch so you will be able to open/close it as you want. I think it would be annoying to have it loud every time you went WOT.

I have a badlanz electric cut out. I have had it for a few years. Metal gears CNC machined valve, and great customer service. Mine is mounted right off the turbo and it has always dealt with the heat well. The vibrations sometimes work the bolts loose but it is no big deal to re tighten them every 6 months
