Um... I have no problem testing the limits of stock internals...LOL. Alex you have been to the shop and seen the motor selection. De+t, DET, GTI-R they are all good for 400whp on stock internals..... I do recomend that whatever motor you choose that you replace the rod bearings right from the start.... Rod bearings are the weak link in the Sr motor... As been mentioned before, for your build needs goto Gspec performance.. Greg is an awsome guy and very helpfull... Also start thinking about what you are going to use for engine management.. without that you just have a shiney motor in a car that will not run.

A shiny engine that does have a turbo attached though, LOL Tuning is very important as Eric said. I also agree on the rod bearings if you are swapping the engine. If not, I would just bolt on, tune and go until the bearings that are in there start to go. It is very rare to actually spin a bearing, usually the crank is ok. Once you hear the #3 rod bearing start knocking, you can still replace the bearings and be ok, most of the time.

yeah do it twice so its extra nice, take the time to do the bearings it will save you money and a lot of headaches in the long run.

The GTIR has 8:3:1 compression due to the head combustion chamber. the pistons are the same as a bluebird sr20det. It also has sodium filled exhaust valves, larger rods and larger rod bearings. The main bearings have 360 degree oiling and oil piston squirters.. It also has a larger oil and water pump. The head intake ports are also a lot larger than normal. T-28 turbo, ITB's and larger 370cc injectors. The head has a superior design over the DE and DET heads. this engine will stand up to lets say 450-550 whp in stock form. This engine is harder to install but is by no means impossible. iIhave personally installed four of these engines in the past. Wonderful motor when working properly.

The regular SR20DET engine is very similar to the regular DE engines except for the compression which is 8:5:1, larger rods( but smaller than the GTIR) oil squirters, and sodium filled exhaust valves. in most cases T25 turbo and 370cc injectors. most parts from the DE will support a DET engine. This engine will stand up to lets say 400-450 whp if you are carefull. This engine is almost a direct replacement for any 91-94 sr powered FWD.

whats up lance. its good to see your still around and posting !

ill ask you cause i know your an og and have built enough sr20's to know whats what.

stock de motor what the max safe whp would you recommend going up to ??

reason i ask is cause im at 303 whp @ 15psi on a t28 (this was on a dynodynamics dyno) and im looking to upgrade my turbo but not my motor lol. would like to make the max safe whp i can. im thinking a gt2871r would be perfect at a safe boost level.

I know that you didn't ask me personally, but I would safe limit on internals depends on a few different things. With out going into details I would also say that a gt2871r would be perfect for what you seem to want. Stock internals should be fine.
